Hi BDS,

you forgot to mention the costume contest, being so close to Halloween. The Salem league always encourages players to come dressed in a pokemon theme. It's fun!

Nanette
Darn straight!

We Salemites demand a plethora of Pikachu and Jigglypuff costumes!

On a side note, I might not be dressing up as MJ this year. I need two frizzy, bed-head, afro wigs (one for me, one for Josh). Yes, that's a hint. *hinthint* Anyone who correctly PM's me the answer as to who we're planning to dress up as WILL receive a cookie at the Salem Pre.

We are no longer adding packs to the top 4 places in each age group.

>> All Players get 2 additional Dragon Frontiers boosters and a Special Dragon Frontiers Item when they complete the tournament!!!

BDS

Ewwwwww! Ewwww!!!!

So, Oregon no longer houses the greatest pre-releases in the nation? Uncool! Yes, the pres are great fun, but it was always nice to have a little incentive for those lucky people who pulled a complete 1-1-1 S2 line to actually try to win.

Are there at least prizes for the GBA tourney? I see that the possibility of such is not specified.

Also, who devised the rules for the GBA tourney? Some of those restricted Pokemon (The three Regis) do not belong on that list, IMO, due to the fact that nobody would ever use them considering how many freaking Sword-Dancing Groudons there are going to be there. *quietly rants off in a corner about how Groudon is over-used*

I AGREE THEY SHOULD ADD MORE PACKS LIKE IT WAS NORMALLY.

I'm siding with OLD SCHOOL PLAYER and Phazon Elite on this one. BDS, please change your mind and have the prizes the way they were before.

We knew this would not be a popular decision as it is always hard when you take something away. We kept the extra prizes for over a year after the policy changed. Washington hung in there with us for a while, but last season they stopped adding to the extra prizes. I do not know of anyone in the country doing this any longer.

We love our players and want to give you lots of extra stuff, but remember that all the extra prizes are provided at our expense. We always, and will always, give away stuff between each round of our tournaments, and lately we've been making sure that we have some new boosters in each give away. We will keep doing that, but can no longer keep adding 3 boxes of product to sweeten the top 4 places at Prereleases. While I hope this won't be the final straw that keeps you away from the Prerelease tournaments we run. I understand extra prizes are a motivator. This decision was not made without a lot of discussion on our part, and we certainly knew the players preference. Unfortunately, the extra prizes are gone. Sorry.

I am seriously thinking about not even attending the pres and just saving the money to help buy a box of DF or whatever. Why? Let's do the math.

If I go to both pre-releases, which I planned on doing, that's $40 bucks for a whopping 16 packs MAXIMUM, not counting the event that we actually get DF packs for placing well in the GBA tourney. For a per-pack ratio, that means I'm paying $2.50 per pack, which is a good enough deal in itself considering the MSRP of $3.49 carried by the solo packs. However, by buying a box of 36 packs for $85 dollars, I end up paying only $2.36 per pack. Now, were that the only downside to going to pres, I'd swallow my pride like a man and go anyway (what's an extra $.14 a pack, eh?). However, the $85 purchase also guarantees, barring any drastic and truly dreadful curcumstance, that I get at least two or three of Dragon Frontiers' utterly godly exes (that right there justifies the somewhat massive purchase). When you add the crappy deck boxes which replace two of the original ten packs into the equation (there has been many a joke about them in the Salem circle), you end up with a tournament which is not very appealing to the semi-competitive player like myself.

I'm probably still gonna go (I don't think I have the $85 for a sealed box, regretfully), and I'm sure I'll be glad I did once i get there and start joking around with people I haven't seen since spring, but at this point in time, I am most displeased -- most very displeased -- with the new prize structure.

I think that you are breaking even by selling the packs for that price cuz u might still be gaining 10 cents a pack, so if you give bonus u should still have enough as if what you bought it for.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

I no this would be impossible with our attendence but wouldnt it be cool like it was once. gooood times.....

I wouldn't even demand that. All I want is the more recent prize structure of 12 extra packs for first, 8 or so for second, etc.

You know, the downgrade in prizes which occurred a while back foreshadowed the complete nuking of the extra prizes altogether, didn't it?

Correct. The majority of PTOs discontinued extra prizes when PUI changed the Prerelease structure to a non-competitive, fun event and stopped sending additional prize support. We chose to continue to add prizes at our own expense, but we knew that at some point we would most likely have to bring our tournaments in line with the rest of the country. This is the year for that, as we will be supporting the Battle Road series this Spring and will supply between round giveaways for that. It's all about where we put the resources.

They still are.

I'm on the phone with Joshua, and he says: "Yeah, we wouldn't want a tournament to be competetive."

I'll add more in a bit.

I must also apologize for not recognizing your post last night, BDS. Mine, which immediately follows yours, took about half-an-hour to complete because of RL events. LOL.

Anyway,

Nothing like a tournament with no real purpose aside from a moderate discount on pack prices. -_-

For your (this is directed at you and anyone else who had any say in the prize structure) extra prizes, I am very grateful. This, like all great things, had to come to an end eventually, I guess. It's just too bad that it did.

Well, constant complaining won't help matters. It's just that for those of us on a tight budget, spending $20-40 bucks on random cards, with no actual guarantee that any of the packs contain valuable exes, is very hard to do -- even if you get to have a lot of fun in the process.

I'm the writer and runner of the GBA tourney, I saw some questions so i'll address them.

-Banned items:
I've currently banned no items other than duplicate items. This may change if item's are misused in some way or the general concensus is the items need to be banned.

-Help running the tourney: I'll only be available to run this tournament on saturday in gresham, help may or may not be needed there, inquire when you get there. As for the salem stop, I won't be running that one so it'll be up to whoever's there.

Also Rental Pokemon:
This wasnt a question but BDS didn't mention it (I don't think). I'll be at the gresham stop and thus i'll have several cartridges of rental pokemon, teams of level 100's, hold items, and each team will have a legendary. These are basically first come, first serve, and I can't estimate how many I have. The teams will be random but also structured well so that it's fair for everyone. If someone's team has a mewtwo on it, per sey, they'll be issued 2 pokemon that are less than steller compared to a team that maybe has moltres on it. Etc. First come, first serve, you have to inquire at the event, I won't do any pre-ordering type stuff online. Only for the gresham stop.

Prizes: I alone am bringing tons of prizes for the top 3 winners. This time around, the prizes are all rare and interesting pokemon items from JAPAN. Stuff you won't find in any american stores (at least none that I can think of) I won't tell you what they are but there's definetly some REALLY cool japanese pokemon goodies here. That won't be all, as with all GBA tourneys, other prizes will be supplied and/or donated, so come prepared to win a bunch of stuff!

Any more questions about the tourney can be posted here or pm'd to me, I check the gym more than once a day!

And don't forget to bring your pokemon GBA game EVEN IF YOU ARNT IN THE TOURNAMENT because Team Rocket's Black Market will be in full effect doing all sorts of GBA related trades! We've got ALL the rare pokemon and other great goodies to trade for, we can even fill you pokedex! No cheating or hacking here, it's all legit! So stop by our shop! (Gresham only)

I can run the Gameboy tournament in Salem. I did it for the Crystal gaurdians prerelease, so I don't mind doing it again. And [R]visitor, I have a few "prizes" of my own that I can offer. I'll fill you in at the Greshem prerelease with what I have in mind. And for those of you who been to the gameboy tournaments I've helped out at in Corvallis, then you have a pretty good idea what I'm up to.

And a small note to all players who wish to participate in gameboy tournaments. I have a box full of lv100's meaning that I'll some left over. So if you don't have enough lv.100's to put up a fair fight, find me at the prerelease and I'll hook you up with decent team, but I expect my hard-trained Pokemon back. Like [R]visitor, I'll do first come first serve, but I'll be doing this for both Greshem and Salem. I'll be the one with a Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon sticker on my GBA.
