Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

OREGON State Championships - March 10, 2012

im new to the competitive seen, ive not been to an event since 2001. i have all old cards, gyarados blast, char. is this a good event for me?

JandDPS is incorrect. While your cards cannot be used at this event, that in no way means this isn't a good event to come to! Anyone can come and play for fun, which gives you a chance at free prizes in between rounds, and lets you enter the MASSIVE raffle we will have going on. Since you have no current cards, your best bet would be to head somewhere like Wal-Mart or Target and pick up a theme deck to play with. If you can't do that, we will have a limited number of loaner theme decks on hand that we can let you play with and return at the end of the day.

Long story short, there's no Pokemon event that ISN'T a good event to come to!

As for the currently legal sets, we are in a HeartGold/SoulSilver-On format, which means any sets newer than HGSS are legal for competitive play. You can use the following thread to figure out what full sets are currently legal, as well as what cards from older sets have been reprinted and can still be used. Requires a bit of wading, but there's a lot of information there:

Finally, as for Gyrados, the only current versions are these -

If you're curious about a specific Pokemon, try the Research Tower link at the top of the page. You can type any Pokemon in there to see if there are any current versions of them.

my favorite poke-mon is gyarados. can anyone help me find a deck/current version of him?

HeartGold/Soul Silver was released in February 2010. There is a Gyrados in the Heart Gold/Soul Silver expansion.

The best place to get ready for States is at one of your local leagues. You can search out local leagues here:

2nd question, Im a quadriplegic in a wheel chair. could i have someone acting as my hand? lolol im 21 and wanna play pokemon, but yea i have great movement, just no finger control ;]
Making accommodation for a disability is something we do for at least one or two people at most large tournaments. It shouldn't be a problem. Catch Mr. Raichu or me before the tournament starts and we'll work something out. Are you thinking of bringing someone along to act as your hands?

I would consider heading over, but I can feel Mama June pulling at my ear to drag me back to the registration table just thinking about it. She has me trained good...

lol lol lol

Ya know, I've been thinking about that very thing. Maybe we can arrange for staff to go for a quick peek.
We'll see what we can do!

We LOVE our NW Players

What's the diff? o.o
Not only the raffle with FIVE great options you can use your tickets on, but there are 20 Pokemon items given away before every round of swiss as long as each age group is still playing (six or seven rounds), and there tons of things you can win at the League area for just playing TCG or VG games with friends before, between and after the rounds of the main tournament. There may be other areas in the country that come close but no one treats their players better than right here in the Northwest. We love you guys!!!

Don't forget guys, tomorrow I'll be running a tournament at the Thunder Gym, as a last chance to practice for states! Need to tweak your techs? Worried about how your deck will hold up against a clock? Just bored and want a chance for a few packs? COME PLAY!

Yeah make sure to be at the Round Table in Milwaukee starting at 5 oclock!
Breon: what time during league did you want to start the tourny? :)

I tend to get caught in traffic, so assuming it cooperates, hoping to start before 6. Tough balance between giving people time to show up and finishing it in a decent amount of time. Only planning to run swiss rounds, there won't be time for a cut.

Pre-state tourney was pretty awesome today. Thanks Breon for holding it, made the day really fun! (the 3-0 record didn't hurt either ;) )

See you guys at states!

47 people participated in the practice tournament today. That's 47 people who are going to be that much tougher to beat this weekend!

Darnnn, I wish I was going. But I don't think I'll have all the cards for my gyarados inspired deck. I can't wait to go to one of your events at Round Table and play and learn. I have starter decks but I have a feeling they would get completely crushed, lol. You guys seem like a cool bunch of guys.
