Origins Update and Player Preferences

We've already posted in the main Origins thread that PES is now in it's 5th year assisting with Pokémon at the convention.

We've also posted some changes that you will need to be aware of:

You will need tickets for all events. Generic tickets will most likely be best. NO CASH WILL BE TAKEN ON THE STAGE!

For those of you who kept asking last year where Margaret was, she'll be more prevasive in her presence this year as she will be your Scorekeeper for the duration of the convention.

Now, we need your input. In order to make the convention as successful as possible for you, the playing public, we need to ask the following (Mods, I know this is a poll, but it is a rather important issue that we need to have as wide a spectrum's input on as possible):

What events would you like to see run at the conventions?

What kind of schedule would you like to see for these events?

Would you like to see Junior level events (age 12 and under)?

As is stands right now, Nationals is scheduled for Saturday morning.

DatonGymLeader - what's the low-down on the "8 year-old minimum age" that was posted on the event details @ Origins site?

If (hypothetically speaking) a 7 or younger player wins in a State Championship, and is able to attend Nationals, will they be allowed to play?

How do the tickets work?

I've never been to Origins.

I have preregestered for Nationals. Will I get a ticket in the mail or when I pick up my pass at Origins?

Thanks!

Last year I picked up my pass and event tickets (for those which I had pre-regged) on site in Columbus. Thing is, you go through a much SHORTER line ("queue" for those 'over the pond') than for those registering on-site.

If an event is expected to be sold out, then pre-registering is advised. It didn't seem that any Pokemon events ever got to that point, so generic tickets (which can be bought as needed) were sufficient (and cost the same, IIRC).

So, you pay to attend the convention (x-day pass) and then to participate in events.

This is how it works:

When you pick up your origins badge at the preregistration table you will get all your tickets with it but be carefulllll. You dont have the ticket that day you wont get in and its a pain in the butt to go back and wait on a line so you can have a ticket remade.

The 8 and older thing has not been enforced in the past. My 7 year old played last year with no problem at the FAT, and actually did better than I did LOL!

Age IMO is just a number. I'm guessing that it's a "check the block" type thing and Nintendo had to provide them with a number. Why they picked 8, I have no idea. If someone drops the coin for a badge and tickets, they're gonna play.

Nationals is slated for Saturday, June 26, 2004.

If you want to buy Generic Tickets, you'll have a couple of options:

1. Wait in the long line for same day registration to purchase General Tickets
2. Since it appears that Origins is now set up the same as GenCon, there should be Generic Ticket Booths set up throughout the convention hall that will sell Generic Tickets.

And after the fiasco at GenCon, it is in your best interest to PREREGISTER for the events you will be attending online. Some people waited nearly two hours in line for Generic Tickets at GenCon Indy last year, something I would not recommend.

I agree. Preregister for events so when you get there they are waiting for you because many dont and find out the wait to get them is atlast 2 hours long.

We preregistered for GENCON last year and just walked in, got our badges, and went about our business.

I honestly didn't even understand that there was a problem with registration until I walked in on Saturday and there was a line through the hall, out the door, and down the street.

Preregistration ROCKS!

Ohh thats nothing. At gencon 2000 i judged and ask Yoshi2001
The line to get a badge was huge. 4 seperate lines running across the milwaulkee convention center halls, out the door and one almost down the block. I remember talking to a volunter and when line 5 was started it to was across the convention floor.

Your right in saying:
PreRegistration Rocks!!!

Hey Steve,
Wow, someone asking what I would like, seems kinda odd in todays world! I would like a junior division, I would also like a rochester draft with the new sets before the nationals so people have a last chance to get the cards they need for nationals! Side modified events on Friday would be nice but I bet only a few will enter in hopes of keeping their deck list secret until nationals so drafts miight get more participation before Saturday. A modifed event (age modified swiss with top 8) would be sweet on Sunday say @ 11 so we can recover from the Nationals.

Dang FF95, and I thought Indy was bad.

I don't know if this was in place on Saturday, but Sunday morning there were water dispensers set up along the path where the line was on Saturday. I'm surprised somebody didn't set up a food vending area along the queue. Beer!
