Outland 10 Year Anniversary Fan Appreciation Tourney report

For all you report lovers out there, this is for you!!

Outland (Oslo) is the store who hosts the biggest and most feared Pokémon League in Norway. This league has fostered Top 8, Top 16 and Top 32 players at the Pokémon TCG World Championship, and I’m talking representatives of all age groups here, incl. 15+.

Outland once again show their customer dedication with a free 10 Year Anniversary Tournament including free cake and boosters for everyone!! (Remember their free Christmas Draft with an attendance record of 121 players???)

Well, enough mambo jumbo, on with the game!!

Deck-choice of the day: Elemental Blastoise aka LBS (woot!?! no DragTrode???)

#1 vs. Tong or Toan ? (Salamence d)

I’ve seen this guy before. He lives in a nearby town. He doesn’t have sleeves on his deck, so I kinda figure out what to expect. I build up pretty fast and plough through his basics. Last KO is a Salamence d with no energy.

1-0

#2 vs. Nicolai (Exeggutor/Metagross d)

Nicolai is a great guy and he tells me he’s looking forward to playing me. 10 minutes later I’m 6-0 and I ask him if he's still looking forward to playing me.. hehe…

2-0

#3 vs. Willy (Gorbyss/Electrode ex)

Willy still plays his trusted Gorebyss/Electrode ex deck. Maybe he is as attached to that as I am to DragTrode?? At least I managed to break free for a short while… I get a decent start and manage to KO his Electrode ex before he explodes it. After that it’s downhill for him.

3-0

#4 vs. Evens (Flariados)

I reckon that by this time I have a decent shot at making the cut. I relax and don’t think too much about the fact that I lost the two last games against this Flariados deck… This is absolutely the hardest match so far today. We trade prices along the way, but I am able to KO all his Ariados’ with Blastoise ex (thanks to Island Cave) before a Flareon ex KO's it… Then we are left in no-man’s land a little while he stalls with Koffing/Shuckle and I attack with Pidgeot. He Super Scoop Ups too, leaving my Pidgeot pretty damaged, but time is called and I am up on prizes.

4-0

#5 vs. Axel (Arcanine ex/Ninetales)

Axel is still going strong with his City Championship winning T2 Arcanine ex deck. Of course weakness to water isn’t a good thing.. He doesn’t get any Battle Frontier to stall with either, so I win this match fairly easy. Blastoise ex KO’s his Arcanine ex and he stalls with Ninetales, until my Pidgeot goes to town on it.

5-0

Top 4:

#6 vs. Nicolai (Exeggutor/Metagross d)

I am very surprised this guy made Top 4. Apparently he won 3 and lost 2 games, but faced some very good players along the way which gave him killer resistance. He starts with Exeggcute and attaches energy, 10 damage and no Confuse. I get a Pidgey start with Rare Candy on my hand and PETM for a Pidgeot. I attach and pass. He evolves, attach DRE and finds three dice… Heads on all three and I am busted!! Luckily that doesn’t happen and this is as close as he gets. I Mentor for a bench, retreat, Jirachi etc. And in a few turns my Steelix ex onslaught begins and I wipe out his bench one by one.

6-0

#7 vs. Willy (Gorebyss/Electrode ex)

It's 106+ miles to Chicago, I've got a full tank of gas, no cigarettes, it's dark and I'm wearing (sun) glasses. Hit it! (Classic quote from Blues Brothers adapted to suit this report...)

Willy’s back with his mind on revenge, so anyway this doesn’t start quite as fantastic as the last game. However I KO some of his basics, and he KO’s my Blastoise ex with Electrode ex, and puts up a Battle Frontier lock. I evolve to Blissey ex, attach water, attack, and bring back 3 water energies from discard pile. He knows that if he explodes I will be left with one prize, and still Knocking Out Blissey ex will be tough. He still does it, and Pow!s a water back to Jirachi on bench in hope that he can 2HKO me. However I have switch, Holon’s Electrode and all I need to seal the deal…

7-0

Props:
- Me for going undefeated all day
- Trading for a bunch of good cards
- Eskil running another great tourney
- Outland, for supplying great prizes and showing real appreciation for their customers

Slops:
- Resistance stopped my daughter from taking 1st place in 10-
- Trading for the wrong Mew ex... Yez, what was I thinking?!?

Not the world's biggest news, but anyway thanks for reading!!

 Congratulations to you! I didn't make it to the Top 8 in 11-14, but I'm satisfied with the 3-2 result I got.
Very cool tournament, and free also! I look forward to the costume/cosplay tournament tomorrow and I hope you will write a report on that one too! And by the way Prof. Birch, the one and only Ash Ketchum will be there with his Pikachu  I'll see you there!

Thanks!

If I go to the costume festival tomorrow I will dress up as Prof. Birch (I have the beard and the coat). But chances I am going are slim, as there is a boring family birthday party I have to attend...
