Petition to Pokemon USA, Inc./Promo Tins

Hello,

I've started a petition to Pokemon USA, Inc. about changing the way they package their promotional cards inside of tins. You see, not a single promo card out of the 7 tins I've purchased recently has come in mint condition. They all have small blemishes on the top and/or bottom of the cards.

I've asked around, and I'm not the only one who has this issue. So, I was hoping, the Pokemon TCG community could make it known to Nintendo that we'd like them to change their packaging methods so that we can buy tins without having to accept compromised promo cards.

The petition is here: http://www.change.org/petitions/pok...nge-the-packaging-method-for-promotional-tins

I would greatly appreciate any signatures, and I encourage you to spread this petition around. Tell your friends, acquaintances, etc. This isn't an unreasonable demand, I believe. And I'm sure most if not all collectors would appreciate this change.

I feel like you should have made a more general petition asking for much better quality control for English cards overall, and then listed this as an example.

I agree Daelum. Quality control is really bad for english prints.
But I think the idea is that the promo card packaging would be an easy fix for them. There is no reason they can't package the cards in a way that they are not already ruined by the time they reach the consumer.
That being said, it would be great if there was a way for the community to reach out to the Pokemon Company USA to try to fix the quality and cut of the new cards.

I think this would be a great petition to bring to worlds.
In most of the tins I've purchased, the cards are mint, as I carefully remove them and thus I don't feel I should sign this survey as it doesn't apply to me.

I would say that the UK/Europe exclusive promos which come in the DVD's are worse. The card is literally just placed loose to rattle around the box.

I must say though, I have had issue with the 4 indents on a lot of my tin promos in the past.

Is it such a bad thing though? Most tin promos are going to be either played with or handled by little kids. Finding mint copies of these cards long term may be more difficult. Wouldn't that just add prestige to a mint copy? If I collected that's what I would want. Something harder than average to find. Something you can't just go to a store and buy once.

For instance the new Plasma Storm Charizard in my eyes is not going to be super collectible long term. They weren't very hard to pull IMO (I pulled 3) and almost everyone that pulls them locks them up in a sleeve and toploader thinking they will be worth money in mint condition someday. Sure its a card that will hold some monetary value, but due to most people already knowing that its a collectors piece, there will be an abundance of mint copies of the card for a very, very long time.

The cards that are harder to find (IE promos like the Landorus and Axew that aren't easy to find) are the ones that carry prestige over a long period of time in my opinion. In your case having a mint tin promo may be very hard to find somewhere down the road, making the copy you worked to find that much more prestigious.

A good amount of promos will become hard to find a few years (or months for the rarer ones) down the road. Finding them is hard enough, so finding mint ones is just making things twice as difficult. As a collector, if we already have to search for a card, the odds shouldn't be stacked against us when it comes to its condition.

Collecting all the promo's is difficult enough. If you buy a new Tin for the Promo for € 16.00 and you get a card that's damaged your day is ruined. If I'll have to buy 15 Tins so I can get 3 mint Promo's out of them, I'll stop collecting. That's not what the company wants because collectors provide them a steady income/profit. They even buy the crappy collector boxes with a lot of Boosters/Theme Decks nobody want anymore just to get that one Promo.
They need to please both players and the collectors base in order to make money.

Forget the tins, it's getting hard to pull mint cards out of PACKS. The past couple of sets I've gotten so much edge wear/cutting marks/weird corners I get sick. It's gotten to the point where I think "I don't care what I pull, I just don't want it to be damaged!"

Carefully removing them means nothing if there are already dents in the card from the packaging. I've gotten more tins than I can count with this denting in it. When half of my cards get damaged from bad tins, it's a huge bummer.

I'm on board. This has been a huge pet peeve of mine for years, ever since tins were first introduced to the game, in fact.

I've noticed this as well and feel the same way. I especially hate how, with many cards, the corners are raised just enough above the rest of the card that they get caught a bit when you attempt to sleeve them, which of course damages the corners further. It's amazing how poorly cut the cards can be sometimes. I also play Vanguard; every card in that game is cut perfectly. I've never seen cards with damage out of the pack, miscut corners or corners that catch on sleeves. It really shows how much better TPCi could be doing with their quality control.
