Pidgeot from jungle set question.

I know its an old card, but most of mine are...I just play with friends, but I was wondering how the pidgeot from the jungle set works. If I use hurricane it does 30 damage, but if it doesnt knock out the other pokemon it returns them to the players hand..does that pokemon keep the damage that may have already been on it, and does it also take the 30 damage hurricane does? Or..is the 30 damage from hurricane only used to knock out pokemon?

Damage is tracked by damage counters.
How would you keep the counters on the card in your hand?
No, when a Pokemon leaves play, it becomes just a card.
It's not a Pokemon until it is on the playing field again.

If the damage it enough to Knock Out the Pokemon, then that's the end of the attack.
It only puts the card back into the opponent's hand if it's not KO'd. And then it just a card again.
