The first parts of the Play! Point system launched on Pokemon.com this morning. It is not functional yet. It will be a little while before we get all the settings right and run the calculator for this season. Everybody currently shows as having zero points for this season. Please don’t flood us with requests to fix your points. I will post again when things are working well enough to be worth testing.

The only thing showing now is points from previous seasons. These are actually your rewards points. We carried these forward as a lump sum. We did not save any details on how these were arrived at so we will not be going back to make corrections. The sum of previous season rewards points is all that is showing up now as your lifetime total. None of the current season numbers are currently included in that total.

I don’t have an estimate yet on when this will be ready to test.

Play! Points now seem to be working correctly. I was only able to do some spot checking. Please look at your Play! Points and let us know if anything looks off.

Note that the US Nationals 10 Play! Point entry requirement is based off of your points for this Cycle, which is another way of saying this Season. Your Lifetime Total is not used for anything except bragging rights.

I thought organizing or judging events counted toward your Play!Points, no?
If they don't, then this will make it very hard for organizers to get judges!

I had a question about that also. If we don't get points for judging then i will not be able to play at nationals.

I sent the email on 12/19/11. The only thing i have heard is there will be a way and that it will likely involve the expenditure of Professor points. That doesn't help those of us who judge and are not professors.

Personnely i think we should get the same points judging as if we are playing. :thumb:

If the point of the program is to only have people playing at Nats that have been participating in Organized Play and that know how to play in a sanctioned event, then I think those that have been judging/organizing those events should meet that criteria.
JMHO

Not that I'll be playing at Nats, anyway.
But for those that will want to, I don't want to lose them as judges!

I am showing each League that I participate in, but it only gives a point for one league. The other League shows I earned a point, but none was awarded.

Is the max per season 1 point, even if we attend multiple leagues?

Also, I too am curious as to how Judges / TOs / PTOs will be rewarded for their duties.

In my area, we have taken a hit on our available staff, as no one seems to want to miss the opportunity to earn points for Nats.

Non Prof judges will earn credits that will count towards their Nationals eligibility the exact same way and quantities that players earn Play! Points. We will notify them via email and post a list of these eligible judges on our site in advance.

Professors will need to earn a certain number of Professor credits within a specific time period. (Think Professor Cup requirements) Details to be announced soon.

Then looks like this will be the last year that a lot of judges i know will be judging. That is unless non professor judges will be able to have a way to play at nationals.

You mean besides the one I just listed?
In looking at your account you have far exceeded the judge points you would need to qualify and are only three points short of qualifying as a player as well. All in all I think that with States, Regionals, Battle Roads, and another few league seasons all to come before Nats, it's going to be pretty easy for folks who are active in the program to qualify.

Looks like you edited the post after i posted.

I'm getting the same thing as Eeveelover above. Only getting points for 1 out of 2 League seasons. But with 7 P!Ps, 2 Leagues, and upwards of a dozen tourneys Judged, I'd guess I'm pretty good for Nats, right?

Looks as if everybody is only getting 1 point per league season

Thanks for checking your points. One point per League season is what is supposed to happen. We do not want it to be possible to qualify for Nationals while only attending League. We want you to have to go to a few tournaments.

It is very important to provide an alternate method to qualify for Nationals for those of you who sacrifice playing opportunities to staff events. It is going to be a little awkward this year but I am confident Dan will get it worked out in time.

We are reluctant to just award Play! Points for staffing events. We want to be able to keep a distinction between rewards for playing and rewards for staffing. We have other uses in mind for Play! Points besides just Nationals eligibility. Some of these would be ruined if the highest Point earners were all PTOs.

For those of you still checking on your Play! Point totals the rules should be:

1 Point for each Battle Road or Prerelease.
2 Points for each City Championship.
3 Points for each North American S/P/T.
5 Points for each Regional.
There are no caps on any of these events.

You can also earn 1 Point for each League season. It doesn’t matter how many different Leagues you attend, you still only get 1 Point. You can also earn 1 point per month for non-Premier Tournaments.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that you must complete at least two rounds of a tournament to earn a Play! Point for it. Byes count. Forced losses, like you get for being late, do not count.

EDIT 2: You must have logged into Pokemon.com in the past two years. See post 48 for details.

I'm confused why I got 49 points for last year, all of which took place on August 31st. However, I don't remember any events actually taking place on that date.

Drew

Drew, that's them applying all of your P!Ps at once for (mebbe) the year.

Has anybody found that their Play! Points do not follow all the rules stated in post 15? I would be thrilled if everything worked like it is supposed to right out of the gate but we seldom get that lucky.

Drew, everyone was granted a Play! Point for each reward credit we had in for them in the database. It would be far more trouble than it is worth to go back in time and apply the new Play! Point rules to everything in the database since Pokemon.com launched. Instead we used the Admin tool to grant a lump sum tha shows up in the 2010-2011 cycle. Those points are essentially meaningless except that they count toward your Lifetime total.
