Play! Point display

Has anybody found that their Play! Points do not follow all the rules stated in post 15? I would be thrilled if everything worked like it is supposed to right out of the gate but we seldom get that lucky.

Drew, everyone was granted a Play! Point for each reward credit we had in for them in the database. It would be far more trouble than it is worth to go back in time and apply the new Play! Point rules to everything in the database since Pokemon.com launched. Instead we used the Admin tool to grant a lump sum tha shows up in the 2010-2011 cycle. Those points are essentially meaningless except that they count toward your Lifetime total.

Okay thanks for letting me know, that totally make sense. I just didn't know if was an error, so I figured I'd post about it.

Drew

The 5 players with the most Play! Points should also be given a Worlds invitation.:biggrin::wink:
No. Play! Points can be awarded without doing well at tournaments. Only the best of the best should play at Worlds, not someone who travels to a lot of events but is not good enough to do well at them.

I've found a bug...

The Play! Points for tournaments appear to be based upon when the tournament is uploaded(completed) rather than when it was sanctioned.

Okay, I'm confused here. Since 9/1/11 I have -
played 1 CC
judged 1 BR
TO'd 3 Br's
To'd 3 CC's
To'd 3 pre's

and I have 0 player points. Is that right? I am not understanding the 0 for any of the above.

You only get Play! Points for playing. You don't get them for staffing.

You dropped after the first round in the CC so that didn't count either. I just now added that little tidbit of information to my earlier post.

How far back should lifetime play points go? Back to 03-04?

I don't know the exact date but not that far. It starts a little bit before the launch of pokemon.com. Most of the events uploaded to go-pokemon.com wouldn't count.

The data and admin tools for fixing mistakes or entering missing data for events before the start of the 2011-2012 season do not exist. We will not make any effort to correct Play! Point totals from before September of 2011.

Excuse me if this information has already been posted/discussed, but are you able to reveal what benefits the Player of the Year will receive? Will they be taken on stage at Worlds in be given a trophy, or?

Thanks for all the info!

There was a prerelease I attended on Nov. 5, 2011
https://www.pokemon.com/us/account/play-pokemon-tournaments/11-11-000183
and I am correctly listed in the standings for that tournament
https://www.pokemon.com/us/account/play-pokemon-tournaments/standings/24499
but this tournament does not show up in my "Play! Points" history, and I was not given 1 PP for it.

p.s. Any clues yet as to when the promised FAQ will be up? ("As we get closer to our official launch in early 2012, we’ll create a Play! Points FAQ that should answer all of your questions about Play! Points, and what you can earn.")

I had the same issue. I just sent in an ask a question thing and they said that there was a whole system issue with the pp form the prereleases and they fixed a lot of peoples. I would check your points again since I JUST got that email about 30 minutes ago. If not I would send in an ask a question thing in the contact us section.

Bruce are you really sure that it is not in your list of Play! Points? tagging issues can mean that a tournament might not show up where you expect it to be in the list. Also a lot of tournaments had there points allocated on 26th Jan so easy to get some confusion there too. ctrl-F is your friend.

That tournament had not been tagged as a Prerelease. You can tell by looking at the first section of the tournament details page next to the heading Premier Event. It now says "Nobel Victories Prerelease" because I just fixed it, but up until a few minutes ago it said "None". It might take until tomorrow before all your stats are corrected.

If you find a tournament that you think is supposed to have a Premier Event tag but doesn't, please contact the organizer first if possible. Anyone who is running a Premier Event should know the proper channels for contacting POP about it.

fancifulashley; You are talking about a different problem. Your points had actually been awarding properly but were not being displayed correctly. We belive the root cause of the proplem has been fixed.

Yeah, you're right. (Shuckle! Before I posted I checked the list several times trying to make sure it wasn't just my own senile fault for not finding it.) That "missing" tournament was the very last item in my PP list. I assumed the last item was the prerelease I attended last Sunday, which it wasn't. The results from the prerelease last Sunday hadn't been entered yet, and that is my missing PP. [Unless I am remembering wrong, which is very possible.]

Pete: "Never mind."

Some of my mexican friends don't have any points showing, and they are wondering why that is. They are worried they might not be able to play Nationals because of this and asked me for help. What should I say? Does it have to do with the 'I want to receive rewards' option?

The players I'm referring to are Manuel V and Juan Adrian E.

Okay, can some please help me here. I have been to 4 battle roads, 1 regionals, 7 cities, and have made top cut 3 times, but the POP website says I have no champion points and does not even list my play points. I know I have 6 champion points, so can some one help me here or give me a link to contact POP.

I don't believe that Pete can help with those two specifically as there is not enough information to track down exactly who you are referring to.

=== Here are common reasons for no play points ===

They must have an activated account
They must be opted in to Play! Points (rewards)
They also need to have a home address entered. I suspect that many players who have zero Play! Points don't have that section completed.

There's only two players in Mexico named like that, and they are both Masters players if that helps. I can also provide their last name if need be, but they both are within the top 25 of the Mexico Masters ranks in CP's.

I'm guessing they're not opted in and that's why.

@Pablo:
No Manuel or Juan in this list http://www.pokemon.com/us/play-poke...e=0&type=points&product=tcg&btn-search=Search

so they might be two of the four Not Opted Into Rankings on that page.

However as all the players on that page do have Play! Points listed I don't think that will turn out to be the case given that you say they have zero Play! Points. This list http://www.pokemon.com/us/play-poke...6&state=0&type=&product=tcg&btn-search=Search has players with no Play! Points but they also have no Championship Points so would not appear in the top 25 of players that will be invited to nationals.

Do those events show up in your tournament record? You can only accumulate points for events/leagues that are in your play records that the site knows about.

If they do have you checked your options to make sure that you are opted In and also that you have an address completed?
If they don't then you need to start by contacting one of the TOs for one of the events that you attended.

Wow you are right, they disappeared from the rankings now! Here's a print screen by one of my friends who was bragging about being in 1st place by a lot of points, taken on the 31st of January by him (this a print screen of the facebook post): http://i40.tinypic.com/2cfcuwk.png

There you can see Manuel (11 CP) and Juan (7 CP) have no PP, but now they don't exist anymore apparently...

disappearing sounds like something changed with one of the site updates.

A long time ago players did not appear when they had not activated or created a pokemon account. But that caused problems with knowing who had an invite to worlds so everyone would appear in the rankings including all the 'Not Opted In's and players who had no account at all. It looks like we have some of that early behaviour back . FWIW I think that NOIRs should not consume an invite but then all my family are properly set up so I'm bound to think that way.

Have your friends checked their pokemon.com accounts to make sure that they are correct?

===looking at that facebook screen pic ==

8th place on the current ratings list has 1664.11 points just like Juan on 31st Jan.
Likewise 10th place 1658.70 just like Manuel had on 31st Jan.

Its likely that those two NOIR are your two friends.
