[TL;DR: Please post the contents of a fresh pack of cards here in the exact order you found it in, listing them by the card number (and NOT the card name) as well as noting if it's a common, foil, rare, uncommon or PTCGO advertisement card. Thanks!]
[FYI: This post has nothing to do with box pull ratios but the order cards are packaged in and the tournament value of that data.]
.....
Howdy y'all!
Back in the day I did a print run for Gym Challenge, which many people found to be quite useful (just as much as Magic: the Gathering print runs are). So in the spirit of that, as well as my way of trying to become relevant in the Pokémon TCG community again, I've decided to record the (common?) print run for Black & White... which hopefully isn't something that someone else already does.
......
WAIT, WHAT IS A PRINT RUN?:
When cards are printed and put into sealed packs by Nintendo, the cards aren't actually randomized but instead placed in a specific order which APPEARS randomized. Knowing this order helps players in pass drafts, as knowing the print run will allow a player to know which cards the previous player(s) took, allowing you to be conscious of what the other players are doing. For example, if you notice that all the Tepigs were removed by the time a pack is passed to you, then you can be sure someone is building a draft deck using an Emboar.
Apparently it's also possible to determine what rares were in a pack according to the commons, but I'm not sure about that. Likewise, Uncommons follow a print run similar to the commons, but at three cards per pack, it's slightly more difficult to determine who took what.
....
SO HOW CAN YOU HELP OUT?:
In order for this to work, I would like to be able to get some help from the community! Helping me is very simple, all you need to do is list the contents of your pack in the EXACT ORDER you found them when you opened your pack.
Furthermore, if you can list the NUMBER of the card--NOT the card's NAME--as well as mention which one was the foil, rare, uncommons, and whether or not it had a "Pokémon TCG Online Open Beta" advertisement card, then that would be most appreciated.
An example of an ideal pack listing is:
* 58 33 110 66 2 / 36 / 73 & / 101 38 72
* The first five are the commons, separated by a slash, followed by the foil card, another slash, the rare card, an "&" symbol denoting the PTCGO advertisement card (which could come before or after the rare), followed by a final separating slash and the last three uncommons.
* Also, your pack may or may not have the Pokémon TCG Online advertisement card. If it doesn't, then just leave the reference to it out of your listing.
It doesn't HAVE to look like this, all that matters is that the pack is listed in the EXACT ORDER you found it in a fresh pack.
....
AND FINALLY....
Post as many or as little as you wish, even if you only got one packs. (I mean, that one pack could be the one that brings the whole print run together!) ... You can also message/email me with your pack listing. It probably won't take long to get the entire common print run recorded; I only bought like 18 packs and managed to find a lot of patterns!
Thanks very much for your help, and hopefully we can continue working on recording the (common?) print runs for future sets from here on out!!
....
MY PACK DATA FOR STARTERS:
As you can tell from the data below, patterns have already started to emerge. For example, the common cards number 23, 74, 50, 81 and 16 appear in two separate packs, and another pack has the common cards number 2, 100, 78, 23 and 74, implying that the common cards number 2, 100 and 78 come before the common cards number 23, 74, 50, 81 and 16.
Likewise, the uncommon cards number 101, 38 and 72 appear in two different packs, while two different sets of uncommons are linked by two cards: uncommon cards number 99, 98 and 8 and uncommon cards number 98, 8 and 92.
The patterns are in there, and the more packs that everyone can record and share, the closer we'll come to finally recording the entire (common?) print run.
And finally, if anyone else has any tips, tricks and ideas for this print run, like how someone can tell what kind of rare you're getting based on reading the common, then that would be most appreciated. THANKS EVERYONE FOR HELPING OUT!!!
