My other hobby besides Pokémon is comic books. So i was reading Birds of Prey issue 106 and Sin, Black Canary's "daughter" is talking with Big Barda (Mr. Miracle's wife and apparently soon to be killed off like all of Jack "The King" Kirby's New Gods). Barda shows Sin her Mega Rod "Cosmic weapon of her who led the Female Furies of dread Apololips".
Sin replies "Look Big Sister, Charizard -- third evolve of Charmander. Attacks with Flamethrower, Seismic Toss or Hyper-Beam".
That piques Big Barda's interest and they converse off panel.

When we return to them Barda is getting the concept that water are weak to electric. And Sin tells her "But Earth type strong against Electric type!"

Then Barda says "Yes.... perhaps this is a warrior's game.....

The really bad thing is the picture of Sin showing Barda "Charizard" had the card look more like a YGO card than Pokémon card.

But another cultural reference for Pokémon!

I don't get around to reading many comic books, but I loved the Birds of Prey TV show a couple years back now. So is Sin the same character as Dinah from the show (she was Black Canary's daughter on the show)?

I think Pokémon is ingrained in pop culture now-a-days. Maybe not as much as something like Star Wars, but everyone knows something about Pokémon. That's the reason it pops up like this from time to time. Good to see it.

Oh sorry it's 109. I can't believe i mistyped that - i had the issue right in front of me.

Never saw the BoP tv program so i cannot answer Sins origins on tv.
