Pokegym Fantasy Football Discussion: Update Posted

Before you ask, yes, I've been a little more hands off than I should have with the management of the leagues. I should have had a topic at the beginning of the season, and I wanted to be posting every two weeks. I especially should have had a notice reminding everyone about the postponement of the Ravens/Texans game in Week 2--or maybe that was a blessing in disguise in determining inactivity. Granted, this was much more short notice than a bye week--they start this week, and there are six teams off--or an injury, but still, here's the list of people starting zeroes, for the record (so I have more proof if one of you stops checking in):

Pokegym 1:
Rotommotor (Todd Heap)
Six Wings of Fury (Baltimore Defense)

Pokegym 2:
~The King~ (Joe Flacco)
Clearwater Gators (Willis McGahee, Todd Heap)

Still, other than that, there was a lot of activity for 3 weeks in. We've had a game in Pokegym 1 decided by less than a point--then changed with a stat correction! We've also had lots of trading, including two trades accepted today, as well as one that changed the face of Pokegym 2 completely. If I'm missing anything, please tell me so I can include them in my wrap-up (which will include standings).

P.S. Flying Fish, why did you give me LT on a silver platter? And the rest of Pokegym 2 (and 1), you do realize that, if you don't like a member handing me (or anyone else) the league in a very lopsided trade, you can protest and try to overturn it, right?

Meh, my team in that league just got *HAMMERED* by injuries this past week, plus severe underperforming coupled with an insane output FROM MY BENCH, and I'm kinda weirded out by this whole thing right now.

I'm not stopping. Just a little disgruntled. My best team scored 45 points this week. That team, I have to choose between Willie Parker and Brandon Jacobs as my RB2. I have 4 starting WRs, a solid TE, and Peyton Manning. Don't ask me how I got all that crap. And still. 45 points. Lost to somebody who started injuries. I'm angry...

I have gotten uber owned on the whole injury thing (my team is Six Wings of Fury) and thank you for letting me know about my defense, oh well, perhaps i can keep things going and hopefully this will all work out =/

Im one of the more active members in the league!

But with Brady out im basically out of this league unless some of my players have some decent days.....UGH!

Bah. Stupid Westbrook and Smith... If I'd've heard about that 20 minutes earlier, I might've had a chance in that game...

I'm surprised that my "bad" team is 4-1 while my "good" team is 3-2...

Waitaminute... REGGIE BUSH YOU ARE A FREAK!!!

Hey, Rotommotor. If you're going to call shenanigans on that 0.07 point loss where my QB2 got 0 points, I'd have no objections. I'm glad for the win, but that's the kind of junk that really only happens on the Partial Points system.

Does that mean I should turn off Fractional Points next year?

In other news, yes, I haven't been updating at all--I just haven't had the time to make a comprehensive update. That's not to say there hasn't been much going on--there's been some trades and some close finishes (referenced above). I'm just worried about Pokegym 1--we're starting to reach what I was afraid of with the QB situation, as we are near the bottom of the barrel (and the other positions aren't much better). On the other hand, Pokegym 2 seems to be going too far in the other direction--or maybe that's just my experience (how did I manage to pick up Colston off waivers--was I the only person with space left for him?). It's looking like I'll stay with the smaller roster next year, but with at least 12 teams (maybe 14? Doubtful).

Nononono. I'd rather have fractional points than have the "59 yard" scenario. I was more commenting on how I managed to pull off a win with one of my positions scoring a big, fat ZERO.

PG1 should probably be 2 fewer teams. Right now, I'm starting Peyton and freaking Kerry Collins. And Defenses are PARTICULARLY scarce as well.

PG2 can probably handle 2-4 more teams. Remember that I drafted my absolute starting QB as a "grinch" in the 6th round. After having selected my potential starter. BTW, I have a LOAD of players in my team that I simply cannot afford to drop under any circumstance outside of IR. If anybody wants to trade for a 2nd half beast and is willing to give up a WR1 or WR2 for it, give me a call. I'm always waiting!

Since someone actually misses them, I'll do a quick post of the standings. They'll be sloppy (though not as sloppy as I thought), but I might tidy them up later.

Bullados: Kerry Collins isn't that bad compared to some of the options--I'm starting Gus Frerotte this week (because McNabb's on bye), and another person's has to resort to Dan Orlovsky because one of his starters was benched. Still, the Defenses aren't nearly as bad as a whole. So you're thinking we should still have a big roster format next year?

As for Pokegym 2, your team's nuts as well--but that's what happens when you attend the draft! If we somehow got everyone to live-draft, 14 teams would definitely be a possibility.

The 2 QBs in PG1 is rough during bye weeks when you have the size league we have. I also hate the fact that my team has the most points of any team and I am simply 3-3. GRrrrr.

Kerry Collins isn't bad for a QB2. There was one week where I used Kerry Collins and Gus Freroette. 6 points b/w 2 QBs. Not a good score.

Part of the "problem" is that the QBs are somewhat overvalued in this format. Look at the top 10 in points right now. 7 QBs, 3 RBs. I also think that any scoring system used in Yahoo has overvalued the RB to such a great extent. Again, the top 25. I see 4 WRs. Everything else is RB and QB. 13 QBs and 8 RBs. And Reggie Bush OWNS this format so completely, he's pretty much the only reason I'm in 2nd right now. That and my CHEATING KICKER scoring like 13 points a week.

I also find it endlessly amusing that my 3 "Can't Cut"s are also 3 of my 6 lowest totals in total score in PG2.

If you think QB's are overvalued, let me drop the points down to 4 Points a passing touchdown next year from 6. If you think WR's are undervalued, have a full 1 PPR as opposed to 0.5 (though that will inflate the Reggie Bush-type RB's). If you think RB's are overvalued, you shouldn't be in Fantasy Football to begin with, as that's the way it is. There's no way to decrease the RB's value (without increasing the pass-catching RB's importance even more), so you learn to deal with it and draft your RB's highly. What kind of scoring system change would you suggest?

I'm not complaining. Just an observation. In the regular Yahoo leagues T25, there are 13 QBs, 3 WRs, and the rest RBs in the T25. I think the relative importance of QBs in this particular League stems from the fact that (a) they're so scarce and (b) smart players will hoard the things to use as trade bait later on. I mean, out of the 32 NFL teams, probably only about 20 of the starting QBs are viable fantasy options, while there are at least 30-40 viable RBs and at least 40-50 viable WR options, and there may be more or less depending on the week. Believe you me, I probably overvalue my RBs FAR too much (Ryan Grant in the first round), but I'll be a little more concerned with getting a good QB next time around. Oh yeah, and I already have my #1 pick set for next year, no matter WHAT the drafting order.

Probably the only way to devalue the QB in a 2 QB League is to have fewer teams. 8 teams (=16 QBs) is probably gonna work out quite nicely over the season. Actually, it works out better over 17 weeks, because you have each team play every other team exactly twice, then 2-3 rounds of playoffs.
