Pokegym Fantasy NFL Football 2009 -- Week 7

Talk to the Tennesse Titans.... 0-4 from a 13-3 season a year ago.

Things happen and players don't perform or others have better matchups for that week. Rashard Mendenhall anyone??

If you dont have a great matchup, and there is someone available that does.. let go of some light weight consistency and go for the win!

Shouldn't the title of this thread be updated?

I have a method for my madness.

oh yeah... and My moves are about to hand Bullados a losing record in PG 2

that's so poetic, I'll just leave it you with that...

Remember the Fat Lady, RA. Remember the Fat Lady. David Harris LB needs to get you at least 15.50 points in order to beat me. His average is 10.4, so it's possible. But not likely.

dang...

I thought it was a much Thinner lady.

For some reason, I was thinkin I needed like 6 points...

wow...

SACK + Fumble + run back for TD .. for 80 yards.. FTW !!! :thumb:

This was a strange week in PG1...

The third highest point total of the week gets featured as the Blowout of the Week in the losing column.

one game comes down to 0.01 points (no joke).

Three games could've gone the other way if the owners had paid attention to their IDPs and Byes. (I'm lookin at you, RA, Bliz, and EP).

The only undefeated team posts the third lowest score and wins.

The standings are now a PERFECT mirror balance. The top 5 are exactly mirrored in record as the bottom 5.

The top score more than doubles two other scores, and nearly doubles a third.

The person who made the most moves has the lowest score of the week, and almost completely neglected their Byes.

And the second place team overall has about 130 points more than any other team in the League, almost 150 more than the first place team, and almost 300 more than the last place team.

It's been a weird week.

PG2 had a more normal week, though at least one player either isn't there anymore or completely forgot about Bye weeks.

128.23-128.22....Wow. That's insane. You just can't get any closer than that, just too bad that I was on the wrong side of the score.

Oh yeah, almost forgot about the ESPN League. It's actually a very close league, outside of the top spot (me, nearly 50 points ahead of anybody, much like the PG1 league). I actually had a REALLY lucky game this week. Three gooseggs or worse, and I still won, thx to my opponent not playing a QB and Ronnie Brown's last second score in the Jets game on Monday. Sometimes, it's better to be lucky than good ;)

I can't believe I'm actually 2-2 there (ESPN)

Haven't even LOOKED AT IT since week 2...

I'll get in playoff status over there and wreck shop now...

I do so look forward to the Bullados wrap ups..

I vote that his employers should give him 2 hours each Tuesday to write his Fantasy wrap up.

All in favor?

I've been missing those lately, haven't I? I'll try again next week, but my new shiny Kingdom Hearts game is just TOO DARN ADDICTING!!!

I think this league is a prime example of why head to head is such a brutal form of scoring. The highest point total in the league is currently in second place. The second highest is in 5th. The forth highest is in 6th. This is why good managers really have to be diligent with their rosters and understand their opponents and make the appropriate moves to win their games. Notice that each of the top four teams here have double digit moves made, and that none of them have made more than 25 total moves through 8 weeks. Making moves is important, but not to the point where you're overhauling your entire roster every single week (RA, I'm lookin at you).

Game Of the Week

Lovie's Stern Mind, probably the most dangerous team in the League (though IMO not the best), was in a pretty good position going into the weekend. The team was firing on all cylinders, getting double digit scoring from almost every position. A late scratch on a valuable IDP, though, probably broke the week. As is tradition with this team, the QBs led the way, scoring the 1st and 2nd most points on the team with 19 and 17 respectively out of Brees and Schaub. Through the early games, though, WooWooWoo had a decided advantage, racking up an impressive point total behind Aaron Rodgers and the San Diego defense. Only Massaquoi really disappointed.

Then came the night, and LSM made an impressive comeback attempt. Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks combined for over 18 points, drawing the deficit to within a manageable 10 going into a Monday game between two old rivals. Both teams had 2 players going. LSM made the comment that he needed Clinton Portis to run for 200 yards and the Philly defense to have 3 pick-sixes to have a chance. Well, one of those came true. Philly had 6 sacks, 3 fumbles, a pick and a score to lead all of LSM's scorers for the week. Portis, once again, disappointed. However, it wasn't enough as WWW's DeSean Jackson pounded away for 19 points, sealing the 5.5 point win. This is the value of IDPs, people. If LSM had managed to replace his injured IDP with any one of a dozen players, he would have won the week fairly easily.

Blowout of the Week

In a battle between one of the strongest lineups in the League and one of the smartest owners, it was no contest. The stronger players won out. Xatu fielded a rather scrappy field of players headed by the epitome of hot/Cold, Carson Palmer, and one of Fantasy's elder statesmen, LT2. Several players on the team scored in double digits, with Carson leading the way with 34 points. However, a QB2 not known for his high outputs and a defense known more for breaking than stopping really did this team in. 8 players scored under 5 points, with 3 scoring under a point.

Go Colts! countered with a lineup of solid but unspectacular players from a fantasy standpoint. Players that are known for constantly getting decent numbers, but never really breaking out into the upper echelons of fantasy scoring. Tony Romo, Wes Welker, and the Dallas defense were the only players to score over 10 points, but both Tony and Wes went well beyond that. In contrast to Xatu's team, only two players on GC! scored under 5 points, and both had relatively successful games over 4 points.

The Rest

Injury Reserve continues his streak of solid, winning play with a win over the most active owner in the league, RogueArchetype Pawns. IR had both spectacular highs and spectacular lows in this week, with 5 players in double digits and 8 players under 5 points. But, ultimately, those highs won him out against RAP, who started a QB that was pulled at halftime, and forgot (on purpose?) to start a 2nd Defense. RAP had similar lows to IR, with 6 positions scoring under 5 points, but didn't have anywhere near the highs, with only 3 players at double digits.

The two highest scorers of the week met in a single game where neither team should have really lost. Yet another weird thing about H2H as a fantasy format, weird stuff like this happens all the time. Ninja Strike had simply insane consistency from all his players, getting 7 players in double digits and only 2 under 5 points. Ellipsis point countered with some very high scoring players, 5 in double digits and 3 of those over 20 points. However, he had simply too many low men on the totem pole to pull this out, with 6 players under 5 points. Still, 143 points is nothing to sneeze at, and if he had replaced Sammy Morris in the starting lineup, he might have gotten pretty close in this game.

And finally, a matchup between the two lowest scoring teams in this league, and neither did much to help their cause. Bliz started one player on Bye, while STC started three. The result should be quite obvious just from that statement. Both players had some incredible performances from the players that actually played, Bliz with 8 players in double figures and STC with 5. But forgetting to find Bye week replacements will cost both teams in the long run. Bliz is the lowest scoring team in the league right now, and STC is second lowest. Both have pretty good teams that have just had some rotten luck.

I'll be back with some PG2 standings later.

This is a little bit more normal for a fantasy football league. For the most part, those that have scored points are in the top. It is kinda strange that the 3rd, 4th, and 5th highest scoring teams are ranked 6th, 7th, and 8th respectively. Still, the highest scoring teams are generally at the top, and the lowest scoring teams are generally at the bottom. I'm kinda wierded out by Woo Woo Woo's team. Are they just getting lucky or something like that?

Also of note: the top 3 teams in terms of roster moves are a combined 7-14, or .333 winning percentage. This further proves my thesis about too many moves being a bad thing.

There weren't any truly good games this week. Everything worth talking about was basically decided on Sunday, and the one match that could've gone until Monday was between two very low scoring teams.

PoliPwned hasn't had a particularly good season, but this was a new low point. McFadden is injured, and Royal was on a bye. 5 players scoring under 5 points, and an additional two "empty" spots. RA basically won this by default. Vernon Davis and the New England defense were probably enough by themselves to win this, but more players are always good.

Seahawks Revenge and Xatu 2 were both tied going into this weekend, playing basically for second place. Xatu had this won on Sunday with 6 players in double digits, being led by the Jets defense and Drew Brees during an off week. Both teams had high scorers, but Xatu's middle players had collectively a better week than SR's, and that won the game for that team. David Akers made this interesting on Monday Night, but still left Xatu about 12 points short of the win.

Fuzzy Girabaldi's had a week of good highs and tremendous lows, with 4 players well into double figures, but nobody else got more than 6.5 points, and 3 of them scored under 2 points. Ellipses Point had a similar week, but the highs for this team were higher, with 4 players over 14 points. Plus, there were at least two other players that were sniffing double digits. having 3 players at 3 points or less isn't exactly inspiring, but better than FG's team, and that set up the win.

Blizzard had a pretty decent week, considering that he started a Bye player. Four players into decade scoring and only one at under 5 points makes for a pretty decent week. Unfortunately, he went up against a monster in the Donks. They managed 6 players in double figures, 3 of which went over 20 points, with Carson Palmer leading the way with 34 points. The rest of the team held up just enough to pull through the strongest win of the week.

I get the feeling that Packer Fan has given up on the season, seeing as he hasn't made any moves at all and started a Bye week player and two IDPs that combined for 1.5 points. Needless to say, Woo Woo Woo only needed average performances to earn the win here.

Go Colts had everything go wrong for them. The Flex Washington breaks his femur early, earning 0.30 points. His highest score came from his team defense. Frank Gore had a less-than-auspicious restart to his season after sitting with an injury. My team was carried by Wes Welker and the New Orleans defense. Not the greatest highs ever, but the lows weren't there either. As a side note, this team went from 0-2 to third place in 5 weeks, ripping off 5 consecutive wins.

I'll put up the ESPN standings later today.

Not going to bother with the matchups here, as most of them were blowouts in one way or another. The closest match was 15 points difference.

What I'd like to know is this: why aren't people playing in this League at all. I mean, the first place team is nearly 100 points ahead of everybody else, and 2 games above the second place team. I picked up Sims-Walker this week after somebody straight DROPPED him, and I had the 8th or 9th Waiver priority at that time. Sims-Walker, for those that don't know, is one of the best young wideouts for fantasy purposes to emerge this season. Somebody DROPPED him, and then nobody else even put in a waiver claim for him.

Please, can this league at least be competitive? I think that RA is pretty much the only truly active member here outside of myself. Last week, only 5 teams made any waiver acquisitions. One of them was already set at every position (Only my WRs are outside the top 10, at 12 and 23 respectively, and I've got a #2 and a #6 benched at their respective positions).

Is there anybody still active in this League?
