Pokemon = socially unacceptable?

It depends on the situation. I mean your friends should know only if they ask or if they come over your house and go like wats that if u have a pokemon thing out.

I mean lets face it anyway you look at it the public eye looks at pokemon as a childrens thing.

Honestly I have all my medals, trophies, awards and other stuff from pokemon in my double doored cuboard in my room. (Then i have my hockey and soon to be football trophy on top of there)

I mean yea pokemon helps pay for college so that gives it an older player boost but people dont see it like that. Dont sweat it.

Does it really matter if you did or didn't tell anybody? Just because your proud doesnt mean you have to let everyone else know.

If someone tried saying something negative I would simply say I made over 7500$ in stuff last year so I guess I got it bad. :)

I, personally, wouldn't tell my freinds at school i play pokemon unless the specificly asked me. I would get made fun of *tries to think of a word to insert here and fails* bad. BAD. Pokemo just isn't socially acceptable by the vast majority of teens/adults. Little kids, different story all together. I remember when i was cool because i was good at pokemon, now if i told people not only that i played pokemon, but was good at it, i dont think anyone would make fun of me because no one would talk to me at all. Steriotypes and the animei did this to pokemon.

EDIT: i forgot to mention that them same things generally apply with me playing DnD as well.

It is socially unnaceptable to the people that don't play, but there in fact they don't know morALs and how adult the game really is. But besides any point behind this just do what you believe is fun, continue it in some aspect if you are good at it and whatever it is you do don't be ashamed and hide it in hopes of not being ridiculed.

I've told some friends of mine
they find it cool that ive won trips around the worlds, medals, and scholorships.
If your good @ the game your cool
if u suck your uncool

there it goes

wrong pokekid
if you have fun, and you have a backbone, you dont need to prove to others you are cool

I can see how if you are in Middle School or early High School you could get made fun of. By 11th grade people understand more, and in College no one really cares, I can go to school wearing pokemon and I don't get made fun of at all.

I also play MTG (Magic The Gathering) and they are all very nice to me, I am the only one sitting at an MTG table that is a girl a lot of the time who is wearing a pokemon shirt.

Pokemon became "little kiddish" because Pokemon (well the US version Anime anyway) wanted it to be like that. I mean our TCG boxs say for ages 10 and up yet 10- is a huge part of the TCG (11-14) I believe is the main target group.

The Best thing Pokemon did was to make D/P for the DS because like GS people wanted to buy the game Same thing with R/S. However I think it was advertised very well for the DS and making trading wifi and that you also can connect to the Wii is a nice plus.

Pokemon is actually making a comeback more than a lot of the TCGers know. I go to anime conventions, I was standing in the Anime Matsuri line with 200+ other people and over 60% were playing either D/P. Anime Matsuri Consert, o man it was bad, The underground was full. I think there was 3 different undergrounds going, and the Union Room Was packed. At A-Kon, while people waited for viewings and the consert people played their DS.

Guy with Sign saying he plays Pokemon:

My friends are cool with it....in fact that think it is awesome!!!!
I play soccer for my high school team...and just last week, I schooled like 5 other players....I was pulling of crazy moves like the snake and stuff and then I scored a goal....the fans...which were majority of my high school buds and the the players on my team started shouting, "YOU GOT SCHOOLED MY A POKEMON PLAYA!!!!!!!"
...."PIKA PIKA PIKACHU!!!!!"
I am sooo serious...I was cracking up and the look on the other teams faces was priceless....Guess they didn't think that someone playing a "lil Kids","geeky game", could actually be athletic.

At school some do (or did, they're over it now). But I honestly don't care. If they have something against it, that's their problem. I've made the best friends I've ever had through pokemon who really made me feel welcome and helped me get over my culture shock when I first moved to holland.

*Pokemon == punk?

I think one of the reasons I started playing is because it is socially unacceptable. It also happens to be a lot of fun.

I used to be afraid of telling people, but I'm turning 13 soon and lately I really don't care about what other people think of me. If someone makes fun of me, I don't care. SCREW THEM! I haven't told my girlfriend yet, but I'm sure she won't mind.

I havn't read through the posts past the first page but this is responding to the original post. If you care about your kids, don't let them get into it. It's not cool.

Luckily, I got into it after I established my rep at school with sports, skateboarding, rapping, and of course the girls so I have a lot of friends in a lot of different groups. I got into Pokemon with my best friend who I've known my entire life after and we would never tell anybody. If people found out, it would ruin my rep.

If you get your kids into Pokemon before they figure out who they are, you're turning them into Pokemon losers and they probably won't be anything else.

So for everybody who said they don't care if people know they play Pokemon, then it's already too late for them. For the rest of us who are normal, lets keep it that way.

People may be made fun of for playing this game, but who cares? If others feel that playing Pokemon is wrong, that is their problem. If your having fun playing, don't get upset when people make fun of you for it. Most of the time, the people who make fun of players are either just as "geeky" as the ones playing, or need to boost their own self-esteem. I have told almost all of my friends that I play(some I have not seen in a long time, like, years long.), and they all think its cool. One of them actually found his old collection, and asked me how much the game changed. Many people play the video game and aren't harrassed about it, but why do we get harrassed when playing the card game?

i wore my team brads shirt which advetised pokemon to school oneday
one guy thought he could beat me up, after all, im just a skinny white guy
i dont know if his fingers ever fully healed, but he wont mess with me or anyone else again
morale of the story: dont take... foul smelly excreasions from people who give you a hard time
