I'm curious to hear why it would be terrible also.

It is the format played at every tournament in my state.

Sometimes it means that rounds go longer due to sudden death, but it's usually pretty good.

There's a school of thought that BO3 is meant to indicate at least two complete games.

It's virtually impossible to play 2 complete games in 45 minutes.

I understand the other school of thought that 45/3 encourages at least one complete game as well. At times, I support it for tournaments where time is not really an issue.

Right, that's why I said it's basically the same as it is now in that you get in only 1 full game. But if you get a game loss, or a donk, you can get in another full game so that you don't get donked out of a match. This also eliminates prize penalties by making them all just game loses.

So the idea is that you still get only one real game, but it's always a real game, rather than a donk or something stupid.
