Hello,

This is "PrOaCh" I used to play a long time ago. The last time I played was actually at the super trainer showdown in San Diego. I also used to own poke-dome.com, but now thats history, and some advertising company bought it to make money. Beside all of that, I think I want to get back into the game. Well, maybe. I first need to find a league like the ones they had at Toys R Us. Anyone know of any close to Long Beach, California? I tried the league locator, except you have to actually have the right city for anything to pop up, it doesnt give you the surrounding cities.

If I were to come back, how different is the game now? What would I need to buy? Should I even come back, or am I wasting my time?

I used to be a "decent" player, but that might have all changed by now.

Ciao, and thanks in advance.

Hey! Welcome back.

No one other than the Rules Team can respond in this forum, so let me move this over to News and Gossip so members can help you out.

Thanks PokePop... just shows how much I know. -_-

Hey, welcome to PokeGym!

You should definitly come back! The game is still fun and now there are so far only seven sets in modified so you haven't missed much! Modified is the new format of play. Unlimited is everything while modified is the following sets: Ruby & Sapphire, Sandstorm, Dragon, Team Magma & Team Aqua, Hidden Legends, Fire Red & Leaf Green, and Team Rocket Returns. They are abbreviated like this in the order I listed them: RS, SS, DR, TMTA, HL, FRLG, TRR. You will need cards now if you are going to play modified. All the rulings are on the link in PokePop's sig. Just click that and study it sometime. And with Christmas coming up, now you know what ask for. Hopefully, whatever league you decide to attend, that League Leader will help you build a new deck that is RS-On.

If you need help on PokeGym, just post.

What you should do to get back into the game:
1. Read the How to play rules in Nintendo's portion of the Pokemon Trading Card Game. This portion of the site explains the cards, products, and everything you need to know how to play the game itself.
2. Get a product to get you started. Since you already knew how to play you should get a Modified Legal Theme deck to get back into the game as it contains vital rule changes that you should know. EX: Ruby and Sapphire and EX: Sandstorm is the best for finding these vital rules changes in detail. However any EX Series Theme Deck has really good strategies already built in!
3. Get familar with Pokemon Organized Play. Pokemon Organized Play is operated by Pokemon USA, Inc. directly (not Nintendo) so they have a different web site. This site explains the details of the Pokemon League, Sanctioned Tournaments, and our greatly expanded Premiere Events which now includes City, State, National, and World Championships. Pokemon Organized Play is like the DCI for Pokemon now when you attend a league or tournament you will get a new identification number which is used to track the events you played in. Of course you will not be able to access any ratings and rankings until you get a "My Pokemon" account attached to your POP ID. This account enables you to receive ratings and rankings and if you are good enough invitations to the World Championships. The Pokemon Organized Play website also has the offical tournament rules, details of the many different ways to play Pokemon (Modified, Unlimited, 2-on-2, Limited), details of the Professor Program, and so much more!
4. Use state wide locators for league and tournaments on the POP site to find fun Pokemon events near you!

you shouldn't have any problem returning to the game. just start out at a league then move to premier events. you will be back in the game in no time! plus, it is more popular than ever and there are more oppertunities to play in tournaments and win in them, along with awesome stuff you can win. good luck!!!

I recommend the 'Battle Stadium'. If you can get it at a good price, it gives you a leg up on some multiples power cards and trainers you can use. If you decide NOT to use Blaziken or Gardevoir, you can trade them for something you want.

You missed Pair-A-Dice in Vista, CA :)

I think the Alakazam league is going to be your closest, plus they have awesome leaders over there- Chrisbo and Cattdreams from the Pokegym.
There are a TON of free City Championships coming up in the LA area too, so its a great time to get back in the game. The next one will be this Saturday in Camp Pendleton, about 30 min from Costa Mesa, then the following weekend there is one in Riverside on the 18th, and Diamond Bar on the 19th. We have a great group of players here in SoCal so throw together a deck and drop in on one of the Cities. Like I said, its free and a great way to learn more about the game as it is now and the players in your area!
