Problem with surf

i was migrating pokemon from my emerald yesterday, and while i was taking away the HM's, i realized something that is extremely wierd. my linoone knew surf, and it was the only pokemon to know it. i tried deleting it, but the man kept saying "linoone doesn't seem that it wants to give this move up." i then teach my swampert surf, and i was able to delete linoones surf. then when i tried to delete swamperts, the same thing happened. i finally figured out that u may need two pokemon that know surf on your team to delete it on the R/S/E games. has anyone else had this problem, or is it just me?
 
I haven't tried it, but I think if only one pokemon has a particular HM move, you can't delete the HM move.
 
At least 1 pokemon must know the HM's. This is to prevent people from getting stuck in games. Like say you need surf to leave lilycove city - but you migrated it and do not have a fishing rod. you would be stuck.

Except that you can't migrate a Pokemon knowing an HM move.=P Releasing would have the desired effect, but that wouldn't work either.
 
didn't come across that problem yet. But then again, I caught a spearow and taught it Fly so I could still go to places. Maybe that's the ticket.

Try releasing the only pokemon with surf/fly etc.
It will say it came back...it was worried about you.

and the reason why you cannot migrate HM'd pokemon is the same reason. you could get stuck.
 
but i was able to delete all the other HM's (dive, cut, rock smash, waterfall, strength, and fly) without this problem. and ultimatedra, i never knew that, i must try it.
 
ya it has happened to me i almost died when i couldnt release this one pokemon and couldnt figure out why, it was the only pokemon in my game to know dive. so i caught and gave another pokemon dive and i got to release it:)
 
^y did u release a pokemon. that's one thing i never got, u got room for a lot of them, so y delete it?
