Program Lag- What is it attributed to and how it needs to be fixed

Alright, so when the TCGO program finally came in the form of the downloadable client, there were bugs. However, the client itself ran pretty well for the most part.

It seems like with each successive addition of a new set, the program gets more and more laggy, now waiting upwards of a whole minute just to load up trading, the store, or even go back to play now. This is all besides the heap error that plagues it, causing the program to crash after using it for around a half an hour, which I can imagine is the reason the lag gets worse and worse until that happens as you play.

I have a 2 year old laptop with 2 cores, 4 GB of ram, a 10 GB paging file, and 4 GB Memory Boost (ala Windows 7). My graphics processor is an AMD M880 with ATI mobility Radeon HD 4200. I have all my settings set for performance over quaility.

Now, Im not a tech nerd by any stretch of the word, but with my laptop being decently newer, I do not think there should be a wait of 2-3 minutes just for the program to load up after retrieving my collection aka the whole program screen pops up, but I must wait for my daily rewards screen to load the icons. And I should definitely not be waiting a minute or more in between switching tabs.

Could the lag perhaps not be my computer? Could it possibly be that with every new set, we get alot of new players within the program, and that the servers being loaded up is the issue? Do the game servers need to be upgraded? I have talked to a handful of people that have next to no lag from the program at all, until the error occurs, quite similarly to myself when the program was fresh out the gate.

I guess this is sort of rambling, but Id like others to weigh in on this, and perhaps Mike from the TCGO could drop in to put in his two cents. Or rather I would love it if he did, since generic responses on TCGOs forums usually say "install, reinstall etc etc", but a program shouldnt need this just to fix a lag problem, right?

How often do you run computer cleaning programs like CCleaner?

My computer is set to auto defrag and clean up the memory once a week, thats all I know. Is that similar to what youre talking about? I have even manually done this to try and speed up the program itself, but it didnt help. I have Ashampoo core tuner and its diagnostic software, and I have ran it alongside the PTCGO client just to see the memory spiking and its atrocious. Every day tasks like internet browsing or opening files and what not take up little to no memory whatsoever, and when Im running PTCGO it literally runs between 80 and 100% usage, spiking every 30 seconds or so. Not even running RNG reporter on my computer for B/W seed searching maxed out my RAM like that.

I have the same problems with the program. I click something and it is slow to react or the program momentarily stops responding. I also optimized my graphics settings but it doesn't seem to help. I don't have this problem with other programs on my computer, and I too keep my PC well maintained.

I'm not quite as bad as what you guys are posting, but yeah, the lag can get obtrusive at times.

Also, I went on a minimarathon of pack opening earlier today. And the program stalled. Hard. As in, couldn't do anything on it. I got a heap error when I hit the Windows button, then hard crash. Came up again when I asked it to, but still. I dislike hard crashes...

Hmm I've switched from windowed mode to full screen, and it seems much more stable. It would, however, be way more convenient to play in windowed mode.

It seems to be quite the resource hog for some reason. I don't get anywhere near the amount of lag reported here (I get around 3-4 seconds tops) but that's because I have what should be a completely overpowered machine for what this should require. It seems to be using around 600MB of RAM and causing some pretty high spikes on CPU usage upwards of 25% usage on a Quad Core CPU so I can see how it could cause lag on some people's computers if it isn't the only thing open.

While it still lags, I took about an hour and clicked through my mail messages I had piled up from completed trades and expired postings. I had about 530 to click through, but since doing that, my I have gone from 2 minutes 30 seconds start up time and long periods of time between transitions to 30 second start up (loading the daily rewards and chat lobby aka being able to do anything) and the transitions are much much shorter!

I am pretty sure that when I play the game at my parents house (when I visit them).
Their annoying ad-ware program bogs down the memory.
Not sure how old their computer is (it has vista I think).

However when I go to the library & play, the lag is nill.
Pretty sure those computers might just have a better Internet connection (parents use wi-fi).

Maybe try playing non-wireless?
IE hook it up directly to the cable/DSL internet connection.
