if machamp uses strong-willed, and on the opponents turn they warp point and hit the machamp with magmortar's flame bluster, will machamp still get to flip?

the Strong-Willed attack puts an effect on Machamp. Whenever a Pokemon is moved to the Bench, all effects and status conditions are removed from that Pokemon. So if Machamp is Warp Pointed to the Bench, all effects, including the effect from Strong-Willed will be removed. That means you won't be able to flip a coin to see if it survives.

how is that any different than bastiodon? or electrode?

if electrode can remember being damaged while on the bench to put paralyzation on the defending pokemon, why cant machamp remember being sent to the bench? do we have an official poliwrath ruling? ugh i wish i knew japanese.

"Whenever a Pokemon is moved to the Bench, all effects and status conditions are removed from that Pokemon."

according to that, if electrode was damaged by an opponents attack while on the bench, it should immediately forget that it was damaged.

But the damage is visible.

All effects of attacks get removed when Benched, Evolved, Devolved, or the Pokémon Leaves Play.

The timing is very different.
Think about when the damage is done in relation to when the effect or calculation is done.
Very different times, aren't they?

I'm not 100% sure if benching Poliwrath would allow him to hit for 60 every turn. You might want to post that question in Ask the Masters.

Is it the same thing with Empoleon's Lv.X Hydro Impact? If he hits the bench, and come active again, he can still attack ?

There are several game statuses that are remembered and not cleared by benching.

  • Pokemon was played this turn
  • Pokemon has evolved this turn
  • used a once per turn power
  • you had a pokemon knocked out last turn (included for completeness)
  • which pokemon were damaged by attacks last turn.
  • The amount of damage done last turn to each Pokemon.
  • Which attack was used last turn.
The only tricky one here is being damaged by an attack last turn because though damage is an effect in the English language sense of damage. Damage has a special, and somewhat ambiguous, place in the pokemon tcg. Which is why cards, attacks, and Powers that block effects always specify whether damage is included or not as an effect that can be blocked.

Q. If Poliwrath was damaged by an attack during its previous turn, would switching or retreating remove the effect and allow Poliwrath to use its "Focus Punch" attack?
A. The fact does not change that Poliwrath was damaged during the previous turn, regardless of whether it was moved to/from the bench or not. You could use Focus Punch, but the attack would do nothing under those conditions. (Sep 25, 2008 PUI Rules Team)

so basically when a pokemon is damaged, it remembers it, even if it gets benched. when a pokemon receives any other effect that isnt damage, it forgets it when it gets benched.

If Empoleon lv.X's Hydro Impact's effect stated:

"If Empoleon lv.X used Hydro Impact during the player's last turn, this attack does nothing," then you wouldn't be able to bench Empoleon lv.X and bring him back up and be able to use it again.

But since the attack is leaving an effect on Empoleon that tells it it can't use that attack next turn (or attack period...can't remember), benching Empoleon will remove that effect and Empoleon will be able to use the attack again.
