Quick Time Events in Video Games

So I've been following the production for FFXIII-2, and have seen a lot of people complain about Quick Time Events. I for one never really found them that intrusive, since most games add them subtly and they don't intrude too much. Since a lot of gaming website forums tend to erupt into flame wars over questions of "why does this suck?" I've decided to bring the question here.

Why do so many people hate Quick-Time Events?

For those who don't know a Quick Time Event is a sequence that involves a short puzzle (like some of the reaction commands in Kingdom Hearts 2) that has some resulting effect on battle.

Amended the first post with a brief explanation. Sorry if it isn't that great, I kind of suck at explaining things like that.

It depends for me. I disliked the ones in Megaman Battle Network (And Starforce by extension), but greatly enjoyed them in The World Ends With You. It's all about polish and shine in implementation.
