Well lets say we are playing unlimited or w/e. And lets say i play cyber jar the one where you draw 5 cards. I have 0 cards left in my deck. and he has 5 so i play it and now we both have 0 cards but he says its tied since we both have 0 cards. But i say its kind of like pokemon since you draw before me.

So what would happen?

you have 0 cards because in yugioh if you can't fulfill the full effect of a card you lose.
since they have 5 they meet it and would lose if they had to draw another card.. since you cant fulfill the 5,, u lose = /

unless they changed the rule

Okay lol i should have played it like a bit earlier since i had card destruction too lol. Unlimited is so much fun. lol.

You're not drawing cards with Cyber Jar, you're "picking them up." You only lose if you can't DRAW.

The person who has to draw next loses.

I am a Yu-Gi-Oh judge and have been since the game started and what is quoted above is NOT true. Cyber Jar has an effect of picking up 5 cards and revealing them to your opponent and special summon as many of the monsters that were picked up if they can be Special Summoned and all other cards are added to your hand. However, that is not the only reason why what was quoted above is incorrect. The rules of Yu-Gi-Oh as it relates to decking out is plain and simple, you lose when you cannot draw a card when your Draw Phase starts. Your Draw Phase has already passed in your example because you are either in your Main Phase 1 or Main Phase 2. You end your turn, your opponent tries to draw a card in their Draw Phase, but cannot because they picked up their last card from the effect of your Cyber Jar. They lose because they could not draw a card in their Draw Phase.

I hope this helps.

I'm going to disagree with you. It actually a trick question there is now way a Cyber Jar would get flipped in Tradionial before a BLS a Pair of Dads and Yata hit the field. Got to love Painful Choice

What are you talking about and what in reference do you disagree about? I answered his question based on basic Yu-Gi-Oh rules. If you cannot draw at the beginning of your turn (your Draw Phase) because you do not have any cards left in your deck, you lose. There is nothing in the rules that says you lose if you cannot draw or pick up a card due to a card effect after the Draw Phase. Yata is a card effect that does not allow a player to draw in their Draw Phase.

Dude I was joking, tradintional is such a fast format with cards like DAD, BLS, DD, etc. the odds of a game lasting long enough for his question to come up is very rare.

I know that. I have both "traditional" decks, including Chaos and Magical Scientist FTK, and "advanced" decks. I have as many decks in Yu-Gi-Oh as I do in Pokemon, over 10 for each game. The decks that abused fast play the most were the Magical Scientist FTK (you opponent never even go their turn before it was over) and Demise OTK, which normally would last 1 to 2 turns before the game was over. Not much strategy in traditional formats.

sorry that rule has been changed and now say he plays pot of greed with one card he does lose any time a player cant use the amount said on the card they lose but since the card is banned it shouldnt matter and also konami has taken over so who nos

Irrelevant. Regardless of the whether or not it will occur based on the metagame is pointless to point out. Two new players not familiar with formats and playing banned cards could have this situation.

Your counterpoint is meaningless.

Lol guys thanks for the input but yeah i play like base set yugioh like I said. So im guessing i won? If so thanks for the time and this can be locked now after somebody answers that.

I would love to see where that is written for judges because I have gone through the entire judges forum and there is absolutely nothing in the forum that says if you play a card effect that causes you to draw when you have no cards left, you lose.

Now, I know you cannot play an effect (like Pot Of Greed in your example) if you cannot fulfill the requirement. You cannot play a card that makes you lose. For example, you cannot keep Imperial Order active if you do not have at least 701 Life Points left because it requires you to pay 700 Life Points to keep it active or destroy the card. You cannot force yourself to lose that way.

Cyber Jar does not fall in the same category as Pot Of Greed. Cyber Jar does not make you "draw" cards. It specifically says "pick up (not draw) 5 cards", therefore, you are not drawing and you do not lose, even if they changed the rule about drawing. Pot Of Greed says "draw 2 cards". The word "draw" is clear in it and if you do not have at least 2 cards in your deck, you cannot even play the card in the first place.

If they (UDE/Konami) changed this rule, I have not been notified and nothing is showing on the forums saying of such a change. As far as I see on the forums, it is as it always was, you deck out when you cannot draw a card when the game phase requires you to.

If you have a link where it is in writing by an official judge on the official forum, please share it with me.
