Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Random Yugioh Question

My partner is a LV2 YGO judge (he judges a number of games)
Cyber Jar allows you to pick up cards, if you have less than 5 cards in your deck you pick up as many as there is. If both players are in this situation (picking up all cards leaving 0) the next person that draws would lose as they cannot fufil the draw step.
empoleonperson if your oppanent has 0 cards when he reaches his draw phase you win...simple

and for reference for the people that are unfamiliar with UD rulings from UD official FAQ
If a player has less than 5 cards in their Deck, they do not lose (since you are picking-up cards, not drawing), they pick up however many cards they have and continue with "Cyber Jar"'s effect.

Thank you Ryu99. That is exactly what I said from the start. The opponent would lose in the example given because Cyber Jar makes both players pick up the remainder of their decks and then the opponent's turn begins and no cards to draw, so the opponent loses. I believe it is not only because Cyber Jar picks up cards, but the rule says you have to fulfill the draw when you have to, like in the Draw Phase. Now, if your opponent plays Dark World Dealings, I am not totally sure what the exact ruling is because I have never been in that situation, where both players have to draw a card due to a card effect and if 1 player cannot due to no cards left. I am unsure if the one player loses or the card can be played at all. I know some situations where a card requires both players to do something and if one player cannot fulfill the required action, the card cannot be played (i.e. Shallow Grave can only be played if BOTH players have a monster in their graveyards).

Ryu99, thanks for confirming what I had already said. I knew I wasn't crazy.

ok the new rule is if u have no cards in ur deck zone at the end of ur turn u lose

Show me an official link that says that please. I have nothing that says that in any of my official judge files, emails, or documents. Where did you read this? Provide the official information that backs up what you are saying because right n ow, you have 2 official YGO judges that disagree with you. I am wrong from time to time, but as I tell my players, if you want to claim I am incorrect, please provide an official statement or link showing where the information is different than what I have.

I am going to say this one last time, being a judge gives me access to the judges forums and the judges who write in those forums and there is nothing in those forums about a rule change on when you lose via a "deck out", since you said it was a recent rule change. You so far have failed to provide me with any proof either a link or an email from an official judge from Konami or UDE saying a change to the rule that has been in place since almost the beginning of the game. I am asking for this proof to also update what I have.

Now, as for following the rule on a video game, ask any judge, you NEVER follow the rules of a video game or the cartoon to play the TCG game. It has been repeatedly said over and over again on their forums do NOT try to play by rules on the VG or TV. Those games have rules programmed in them by a programmer and they don't always follow the real rules of the TCG.

I suggest if you get familiar with their forums to see what I am saying. Go to the main Upperdeck Entertainment webpage and go to the forums from there. I am not posting a link to them in this forum because it is in bad taste to do that, if not against this forum rules.

I am also going to say this again, the question was asked about Cyber Jar and Cyber Jar's effect does not have you draw any cards, but pick up 5 cards and therefore, the original question on who would lose is still answered that the opponent would lose because they would have no card to draw in their Draw Phase, which is the opposite of what you said. I have tried to tell you, and you being a person who plays YGO should know this, they are very specific in the way the cards are worded. For example, Destroy is different that Send To The Graveyard. In the same token, "Pick up 5 cards" is different than "Draw 5 cards". Since there is a distinct difference, that affects the answer to the original question, which is who would win when the Cyber Jar was flipped and its effect applied.

yugioh duelist: You can ask questions on the forums and get them answered to. I don't personally know either one of you put Zman seems to try to be helping answer the question and really doesn't sound cocky to me. I find it very surpriseing that a Judge would look to a video game for rulings. If you do judge tournaments I would highly recommoned against making ruleings based on video games or the TV show.

I would love to see where that is written for judges because I have gone through the entire judges forum and there is absolutely nothing in the forum that says if you play a card effect that causes you to draw when you have no cards left, you lose.

Now, I know you cannot play an effect (like Pot Of Greed in your example) if you cannot fulfill the requirement. You cannot play a card that makes you lose. For example, you cannot keep Imperial Order active if you do not have at least 701 Life Points left because it requires you to pay 700 Life Points to keep it active or destroy the card. You cannot force yourself to lose that way.

Cyber Jar does not fall in the same category as Pot Of Greed. Cyber Jar does not make you "draw" cards. It specifically says "pick up (not draw) 5 cards", therefore, you are not drawing and you do not lose, even if they changed the rule about drawing. Pot Of Greed says "draw 2 cards". The word "draw" is clear in it and if you do not have at least 2 cards in your deck, you cannot even play the card in the first place.

If they (UDE/Konami) changed this rule, I have not been notified and nothing is showing on the forums saying of such a change. As far as I see on the forums, it is as it always was, you deck out when you cannot draw a card when the game phase requires you to.

If you have a link where it is in writing by an official judge on the official forum, please share it with me.

He's right picking up and drawing is very different.
So to answer the question you DO win.

I loved Cyber Jar in my banned deck.

Yata, BLS, Chaos, Dmoc, witch, harpies, raigeki, graceful, pot of greed, last will, dark world, mage of faith, apprentice mage, old vindictive mage etc.

I still find Worlds Champs 08 to be pretty accurate.
Not 100% but still accurate, I switched to wc 08 once I retired...
