Retail store - questions

Will the retail store take credit cards, or will it be cash only?

Also, does anyone know what time non-players start lining up for the store on Saturday (since only players can buy on Friday)?

Thanks!

At Nationals all vendors took Credit Cards it's not hard to get one of those Swipe Devices for phones nowadays, So I see no reason why they wouldn't take credit cards at worlds.

They accepted credit cards last year in Hawaii, IIRC.

Thanks to both of you! As an FYI (or PSA, I guess) Capital One and Discover Card do NOT charge foreign transaction fees, whereas Chase and American Express do charge fees. (Don't know of other CCs, those are the ones I use, LOL.)

Would anyone have a guess as to when people start forming a line for the retail store on Saturday?

Exact time: EARLY!

But, with that being said, last year they were very good about setting purchase limits so that everything didn't sell out before folks who got up at a decent hour were able to get in. If you're traveling in a group (or a family, like we did) have one person get in the line when you get there, with your "must have" list - then get back in later in the day, or the next day. "World's" products were still available on Sunday mid-day last year - not all of them, but some.

BTW, "early" for me is probably not really that early - I work from 6am to 3pm. But I'll be there early! :thumb:

One other retail related question: Should we want to pay in cash, should we be bringing USD or CND? This is being held outside the USA for the first time, after all.

I don't know about the Pokemon retail store, but many stores in Vancouver also take USD. With the current exchange rate, they may take it straight across - because $1.00 US is worth $1.03 CND. The large chain stores are more likely to take USD than the smaller stores.

Also for those paying cash, Canada has done away with the penny. When paying cash, most stores round the dollar amount to the nearest nickel. $2.32 rounds to $2.30 $5.73 rounds to $5.75. If you use your debit/credit card, they will not round.

Good to know about the surrounding area taking USD where needed. I'm kind of hoping that the store will simplify things and take either currency since the difference is so negligible, then.

The retail store will accept Visa, MasterCard, CA$ and US$.

This is very helpful, thank you!

Do you know if the store will take American dollars via Visa/MC, or should those of us coming from the US bring cash to avoid currency exchange fees? Thanks again!

If you use Visa or Mastercard in Canada, they will automatically convert Canadian dollars to U.S. dollars based on the current exchange rate. So you pay in Canadian dollars, but your bill is in U.S. dollars. It's real simple. You don't have to do much.

Use credit cards whenever you can in Canada, it's a lot easier than scrambling for local currency.

But our money is way cooler!

Vending machines are so much easier with loonies and toonies!

Argh, where u from Mike? Doin'tcha know how to spell toonie yet? My God man!

Wait til the Americans get a look-see at our plastic semi-see-through bills! They thought our money was strange years ago when we used "odd" colours on the bills, and showed scenes of kids playing hockey ....

Please note that depending on who issues the card, you may be charged a transaction fee for every credit card purchase. For example, Chase charges this fee (they issue both Visa and MC) but Capital One does not. (Neither does Discover.) Also recommend that you call your CC issuer to let them know you will be travelling so your charges are not held up. :thumb:

Oddly enough that was the first time I attempted to spell it.

I'm also looking forward to their reaction to our new bills.

The Usa has such ugly looking and feeling money. Using toilet paper to print money is the best way to compare.
