Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Return Nationals to Columbus Ohio.

Vince, I appreciate your love of your home town.

But St. Louis is about as much of a vacation destination as Cincinnati, Milwaukee, and Kansas City. They all have things to do, but people aren't flocking there in the Summer.

But I suspect Nationals will be back in St. Louis next year, so it's all going to be irrelevant.

>>>Origins [...] smelled of Beef and Cheese

That made me laugh.

Milwaukee has Summerfest, the biggest music festival in the World. I have met people from all over the world. very neat.

...Also reasonable would be a bit farther south, like Houston or New Orleans (though, if you thought St Louis was hot, you'd probably lean away from that.)

OMG no not houston we already have enough conventions and the like. and it is always hot here. (like he said)
and new orleans could use the tourism i guess.
i say just move stuff around every year. gets people to go explore another part of the country.
( i must admit that houston is hot but it does have tons of restaurants and "attractions")

I'm thinking the "lack of things to do" strictly relates to the lack of restaurants to go out to. Everything closed up around the convention hall on Saturday. Maybe we didn't do our "research" as Vince suggests, but were any of those places open and reachable in the time given for lunch?

Come to think of it, I don't remember Columbus having that much to do either. Since pkmn has been at Origins, I've never gone to any potential tourist areas or attractions while in Columbus. What did Columbus have?

In the first year Nats is at St. Louis, I went to the arch. Yeah, I won't be doing that next year, but there were other things I wanted to do that I didn't get to do this year that I can do next year.

Wasn't there a casino right next to the convention center in St Louis?

The problem with Philidephlia, New York, DC, Baltimore, and a few others, is that they are all so east coast oriented.

Restaurants, bars, Short North. North Market. That's about it nearby.

You could go to the Columbus Zoo and COSI if you wanted to branch out.

And that's the problem I have with these kinds of cities - if you go for just the Nationals weekend, you probably won't get much of a chance to see anything else. But is there really enough there to compel you to spend more time than just the Nationals weekend? If not, just put it in any old place with restaurants nearby. But if you want to give people an opportunity to make a larger family trip of it, put it somewhere better.

I think letting geography drive where Nationals are in a time when it's pretty easy to get from one place to another is having the wrong priority.

But why not Chicago (North Central) or Dallas or San Antonio (South Central)?

Regardless, I'm betting that it's in St. Louis again.

Maybe we should have Nats at Bonnaroo then.

I never said or suggested that we should have Nats in Milwaukee, I was simply defending my home City since you took a small stab at, but w/e. I really don't care where Nats is. All I know from personal experience is that St. Louis sucked. No offense Vince. But it really is a ghost town. Besides not having a lot of places to it, there just weren't that many people on the streets, and American Center is located near one of the "nastier" spots in the City. Sure it's right in the downtown area, but you walk 10 blocks away from it in any direction and it wasn't the nicest neighborhood to be in after that.

St. Louis was fine. If you searched abit, did some "homework", you came up with places to go. We found a few fun spots to go to if Nats returns to St Louis.

Given that I play the game for the game, I'd love to see it back in St. Louis, it was fine for playing pokemon.

Then again, I go there 50 bajillion times a year it seems since I live in Memphis (which btw would be a great place for Nat's, even tho it's not the "safest" city around, then again, most cities aren't safe at all these days).

So to do this properly:

Pro's:
Great convention center
Pretty Even traveling distance for most everyone
Free Stuff, and Good transportation

Con's:
Food on Sunday
Boring

So yeah, Pro's outweigh the con's so it should stay in STL. Although it'd be cool to have it in Kansas or something.

But why not Chicago (North Central) or Dallas or San Antonio (South Central)?
Chicago would not be a good choice. I live in outer NW suburb of Chicago. I used to commute downtown chicago everyday. It was 1:55 hours door to door each way. I can drive to a Milwaukee Brewers game faster than I can get to a Cubs or Sox game during the week. That is how bad traffic and commute is.

The convention area is fine for corporate payers, but I don't think it works for the range of pokemon family budgets. There really isn't any cheap hotel options in the chicago area near the downtown convention areas, and I don't think anyone will find any affordable parking downtown chicago.

I am all for the location that can get enable the largest number of pokemon player base to get there. Thus I think central and affordable US city is the best choice.

I vote going back to Origins.
But from what I understand they were really small this year and were condsidering ending Origins.

Hey all,

I vote for a revolving Nat's.

There are a lot of Cities that could host Nationals and be very family friendly at the same time.

IMO, TCPI needs to scout out the next Nat's location better than they did for this last one.

I was with a large group of players and we had a hard time getting to the eateries around the convention center. Had issues with the Hotel (Holiday Inn), and the heat and humidity was very uncomfortable.

I'm not in favor of Columbus again because of the pass cost and the realllllly long walk from the hotel to the hall our tournament was in! I did like the food court and the sales area.

Nats @ Bonnaroo LOL....I'll judge the player group set up next to the Jello wrestling pit. LOLZ

We were there and it didn't seem like it had shrunk that much.

Aside from closing the back 1/3rd of Hall E/F (where Pokemon was) the rest of the areas had a lot of activity.

All the events I participated in were full and there were about 4500 events.

But I'm very curious to see how Gencon does this year. If numbers really were down at Origins and if they're down at Gencon, we may be seeing the end of the large gaming conventions.

And that's unfortunate and not good for the gaming industry (of which Pokemon is part) in general.

I didn't go to Nationals '08 for the sole reason of it being at Origins. I didn't want to pay the 60 dollar entry fee when I'm not into anime or any other games at all. Yes, apparently the atmosphere was better, and yes, there was a lot to do there, but I'm there to play POKEMON. I don't care if there's a Naruto stand or whatever else. I'm not paying 60 dollars to get into Nationals. As long as the actual tournament atmosphere is good, I'm happy. I'm there for Pokemon Nationals, I don't care about the rest.
