Sabledonk - math and analyzation

And again, the problem is one card, and it isn't Sableye. It's Uxie.

Regarding opening basic math, I wrote an article about calculating that years ago: http://www.pojo.com/CardofTheDay/2005/12-06-06.shtml

The only error is where my article reads (.5414/.1425) * (.4586/x), it should read (.5414/.1425) = (.4586/x). I used a different approach than the OP, but I think we're both correct.

You're probably right Sabledonk won't consistently win, but it will disrupt things along the way. This morning, I thought about it this way:

Pooka plays a skill-based deck to win up to 80% of the time. AGAINST "NORMAL DECKS" while loosing 75% to sabledonk
If Pooka picks up Sabledonk, he will win only 60% of the time. 75% against "normal decks" while going 50/50 against sabledonk

Is that really such a hard concept to grasp? Against every "normal" deck where your skill can shien sabledonk wins anyway, against sabledonk / anti decks you go 50/50 that means that sabledonk is bdif. I know ill be playing sabledonk.

Sabledonk beats normal decks 75%, other sabledonks 50%, other anti-decks 50%
An anti-deck still has only 50/50 against sabledonk, definitly no 75% against normal decks(your deck is filled with junk..) and a normal matchup against other anti-decks.

I know what Ill play for my nats if it comes to that..

I almost want to tear up some Battle Roads with a Sableye Donk deck just to help spread the word that we need a midseason format change. Not only do we need it, but it's fun to play new formats.

I know somebody whose making a Sableye/Musharna trollface deck just to show how powerful Sableye's ability is. And it does quite well if he can get the Psychic Energy out of his deck...

Rotation is going to happen. If we're copying Japan's rules, there's no reason we won't follow rotation as well.

A lot of you are just trying to justify running a cheap deck. How about we have an awesome time in some full fledged games with cards we'll never get the chance to use again?

Wow, what good reasoning. I mean Jason represents the whole Pokemon community. One example out of thousands of players? Wow, you just totally justified it, man *props* </sarcasm>

That doesn't even counter any of the points I made (Although, you might not be responding to me. In that case, My B :v). It's ruining the last chances we have with Diamond and Pear + Platinum and I don't are if freaken Jesus decides to play Sabledock, it turns a skill based game into a luck based one. If we're all competitive, who wants to see luck decide the winner?

I'm not saying that sabledonk is good. No, i'm not. I am saying though that you can't bash all people who want to play sabledonk to show how ridiculous it is. In fact, if you want points, don't play sabledonk. Your going to max out at 60% wins.

well after running some extensive solitaire runs with sabledonk, i found on average I was left with a 6-8 card deck. So I feel if one can avoid that T1 donk, then the game is theirs. otherwise sableye has the advantage.

I agree 100% for fun and experimenting

BUT, making a Sabledock deck for a tourny is a whole different thing. It's a real detriment to, what should be, a competitive environment. The deck could steal a game or 2 or even give away a game or 2 to a player undeserving of the loss or win.

I'll admit, maybe I'm overreacting about this subject, but as a fairly new player, I'm REALLY excited for Battle Roads and am afraid Sabledonk will ruin them. I know many people are avoiding BRs because of it and I don't wanna see each tourny become a joke.

I know it's a sort of a silly subject, but I don't want to spend a combined 2-3 hours driving, countless hours playtesting and deck building, and an entire day devoted to playing cards to be ruined by "luck".

Like the format would be any better without sableye :/ Every deck will be able to donk going first, everyone will run 4 eye. And if you spenmd countless hours playtesting for BRs, well...

The problem is that most players dont care about brs that much and want to save their nats, and if brs are becoming a testing ground its not their fault is it?

You basically summed up the reasons why Sableye should not be in the format with BW rules.

But it's not down to the players to just agree to not use it . . . only P!P can save us from Sabledonk.

I'm running 4 eye as well...only as a counter measure though. Sableye, Uxie, and a few others make this format a mess, but other than Donk decks, the format is still healthy enough for a few last interesting tournys.

I playtest my decks 2-3 hours a week at leagues (Which adds up) and I take what I've learned to BRs. Is that a problem? Look, maybe you have no desire to go to BRs so you can preserve your ranking, you don't care for small tournys, or some other reason BUT I find these small tournys fun. We have different ideology about this, don't be insulting to mine, just because you think differently.

But because these tournys have such a small impact on rankings and there isn't much prize support, I can't help but think Sabledonk is a cheap play. There's nothing to win...and its not fun. I just dun get it yo.

@Baby Mario I agree, but I find it a bit disappointing. To me, the last chance to use older cards should be awesome! I mean, Majestic Dawn AND Black & White in the same format? That should make for some really creative kickass decks!

So like I said, maybe I'm overreacting about this, maybe it bothers me so much. Yet, I just got into this game, not quite sure I'm going to Nats , I'm just hoping for some last good moments before next season
