Because I am already quite late with these, I'll hurry up and start right away!
Okay, so we went with our little team from the Netherlands to Austria, our team existing of Kevin (Kevin89), Anna (fireborn), Martin (Mvdv), Ernst and me. I first took the train to Groningen, there met Anna, went from Groningen to Utrecht with her and met the rest of the gang there. Because it was very hot that day, much trains had delays, and we were quite a bit worried about whether we would be able to catch the nighttrain in Duisburg.. Anyways, our train arrived in Utrecht with a 15 minute delay, so that was still acceptable (we had 40 minutes in Duisburg, so that would still leave 25 minutes). Okay, so the train moves on, we wrestle with other passengers to get to our seats (and I wish I were kidding at that ) and woosh woosh we were in Germany...well suddenly, it didnt went as woosh woosh anymore, the train stopped, we were baking in there for about half an hour, we got messages from the crew that there were serious problems with the train.. Then, finally, the train started moving again, and we got an message that was quite literally like "Okay, we start to ride again with this train, we don't know how long it will last, we don't know how fast we can go, ummz just stay seated please". Okay, veeeeeeeeeeery comforting
When some crew passed, we asked them how we would now be able to catch our nighttrain to Salzburg, and they said to us that we just had to sit all the way to Frankfurt and then see if we could still catch it Anyways, we arrived at Frankfurt with a delay of an hour and a half but...there was still half an hour to wait before the nighttrain would arrive there, so we still made it ^^
In the nighttrain, we playtested some, but I already had pretty much decided to go for my Dragtrode teched deck. We got a little bit of sleep, but I was more interested in watching thunders in the sky enlightening the beautiful landscape there than sleeping B)
Okay, then we arrived at Salzburg wothout too much of a hazzle, we walked to the tournament venue, which was still closed ofcourse (it was like 6 o'clock in the morning) but luckily, there was some sort of plateau which we could lay our stuff on and play a bit. After playing a bit around and writing our decklists, the venue had opened so we went inside. I met Lia there too, I was buying a few cards from her but it first looked like she wouldnt come at all, though she did after all which was really cool
I also went after the Regirock EX I was still missing from my deck, luckily, one of the German players had it and was willing to trade it for a R Mewtwo EX and a rev ATM: Rock.
SO I registered this deck:
3 Dratinin
3 Dark Dragonair
3 Dark Dragonite
3 Voltorb (1 Emerald (anti-Shedinja XD), 2 FRLG)
3 Dark Electrode
1 Horsea
1 Seadra
1 Kingdra
1 Feebas
1 Milotic EX
1 Regirock EX
4 Steven's Advice
2 Copycat
2 Rocket's Mission
2 Rocket's Admin
2 Mr. Briney's Compassion
1 Scott
2 Rocket's Hideout
1 Rocket's Tricky Gym
4 Great Ball
2 Rare Candy
2 Rocket's Pokeball
1 Pokémon Retriever
4 Darkness Energy
4 Dark Metal Energy
4 Rainbow Energy
2 Double Rainbow Energy
This deck sacrifices a bit of offensive power to cover its weaknesses with Kingdra; furthermore, because I was expecting Rocklock, I put in Milo EX to better the performance against it. Regirock is just a good thing to have in Dragtrode, IMO, cause with it you can even continue the beatdown while your darks are away already, it can get Rainbows attached for free and last but not least beats down on the not so few fighting weak pokémon (Lanturn, Slaking for example).
Round 1 vs Profdonphan (Slaking/Salamence/Pidgeot)
Ah, not something I wanted to see, and definitely not in first round, a Slaking deck Even though, we both could set/up fairly well and poke each other´s pokés a bit. At one moment, he made the mistake to retreat his active Slaking, without having a Slaking on his bench, which allowed me to do a lot of things in my turn, a lot of Darkness Navigations, and laying down+building up my Regirock EX in hand, effectively giving me the match. It was a good game though, and he was really a very nice player ^^
1-0
Round 2 vs Cetin Y (Vileplume EX, Lanturn, Pidgeot)
Okay, what do you come across when you've just defeated a bad matchup, Slaking? Exactly, Vileplume EX -____-.. Anyways, it didn't matter that much, I didn't get much going and he could stomp on me twice with his Lanturn, after which I had no more pokés in play.
Afterwards it appeared he played Pidgeot too and most importantly, no Battle Frontier so the matchup wasnt as bad as I initially thought but still..playing Dragtrode and coming across Slaking and VilEX in the first two rounds..
1-1
Round 3 vs Daniel C (Ludicargo/Lanturn)
We both have a decent setup even though I felt in control, after a while he was trying to kill my Nite with a sharded Lanturn, he was like, ummz, 160, I say, nope, 80, he looks confused, after which I point to the Kingdra on my bench  it would not be the only time Kingdra would save me that day..
Anyways, after that I fully grasped control of the match and won. GG though, even in spite of the mistake.
2-1
Round 4 vs Angelika? (Don't know exactly anymore) (Ludicargo/Lanturn)
I now felt confident about the matchup, which expressed itself during this match too, which I won wothout too much hazzle. She made a few little mistakes and seemed to be overall a little less experienced than Daniel last round. She was still a very nice opponent though, and we had quite some good laughs during and after the game =)
3-1
Round 5 vs Toni L (Gengar EX/Pidgeot)
Hmmz, I did not expect this deck, but didn't mind it either Even though I had to mulligan like 5 times, which desperated me a bit, it still worked out in the end, and he had no real chance really.
4-1
I was almost certainly in top 8, but even better, my teammate Anna and me were both on top of the list! That was really cool, and meant we had to play each other in the last round. We decided to let her give me the win, so that we could rest a bit, buy some food and drinks and mentally prepare for top 8.
Round 6 vs Anna S (Rock-lock)
5-1
Top 8: ProfDonphan (Slaking/Sally/Pidgeot)
Okay, this must have been destined Me again meeting this matchup.. Even though, I had muchoz luck in this match, both games he couldn't really get anything going, while for example my start in the second game was like: Dratini active, great ball for orb, rare candy tini into Dark Air, search for dark Trode, second turn, Trode, DN, then EL for Dragonite and then 80 damage. It was almost like playing Zap EX And so I won, but not without luck.
7-1
Top 4: Daniel C (Ludicargo/Lanturn)
Where I had muchoz luck last round, it totally abandoned me these two games. Even though the beginning was quite humorous, I wanted to pileshuffle his deck, so he wanted to do that with my deck to, so it was said so it was done, we draw, and both mulligan. We pileshuffle again, draw our hands, and...mulligan  this went on for about two or three times after which we were finally able to get ourselves some basic pokés in hand (all the opther players seemed to have ended their first game already or so it seemed  ). First game I could not get much going, even though he forget about my Kingdra once more, he still took the game. Second game I could net get up anything else but a Dark Trode and milo EX, i Had to Energy bomb the 3 dark attached to trode to Milo EX, because he had a Lanturn on the bench, but it didnt matter after all, since he warp points my milo EX and then kills it woth Lanturn. Even though I still put up a bit of a fight afterwards, it was quite a downhill battle from there.
Sadly, Anna lost too in top 4, so that would make us both 3rd, still not a bad record ^^
So I got my prizes, which turned out not to be that much (9 boosters, a pencilthingy, a coolerbag and two pair of sleeves), sadly, but on the other hand, the attendance wasn't that high even so.. (38 players total)
The trip back went really smooth, though we were rained to death (well, almost) in Salzburg while we were trying to get ourselves some decent food Darn, that was some thunderstorm there! Even though the loud bangs didnt prevent me from falling asleep for like 15 minutes on the steps of a building, barely protected from the rain..
Props
- Organisation for a well held tournament, everything went really smooth and such, and the fact that they made it a Stadium insteda of just a Nationals, which was really cool
- Anna for ending up high like me, Team LG Ownage!
- Martin, Kevin and Ernst for being cool teammembers (though not LG members mind you ) and all the hours of playtesting and such. Martin in special for doing all the work in getting our traintickets and such, thx!
- Jeroen L for the muchoz playtesting before the tourney
- Me for playing faultless as far as I could see.. ^o^ (Im a bit of a tight player so I hate making mistakes)
- The ticketman who wanted to get photographed with Poké cards in hand ^o^ that was cool! (for pictures, see spaces.msn.com/members/typeonegative (or something like that))
Slops
- Thee, train!
- The a bit low prize payout
- The low attendancy
- Ernst for dropping after 3 rounds
- The guy in the nighttrain who made Anna lose on of her deckboxes...including deck..
I will soon add the report for Dutch Nationals too, but at this moment the computer is being a little ***** to me so I gotta fix it a bit Till then!
PS, Anna, you may correct all the little 'Dutch' mistakes in here, I'm wondering how many there will be
