I'm working on my deck now for the professor cup, and I know the rules state no star cards. Does this mean energies as well? I wanted to know because I want to use the shiny matrix energies in my deck, but didn't know if this will be enforced, since they are technically basic energies. Thanks for the input!

as per the guidelines, any card reprinted as a common/uncommon that is also a rare is legal.

I believe the energys in DP are common

If people complain that you're using shiny energies in the Prof Cup, they have much more important actions to worry about, like buying underwear exclusively at K-Mart and counting cards with a 1990's-era Tom Cruise.

I'm using professor energies from the 2003 Professor's Cup. Go me.

Disqualified! I mean, shoot, why didn't I think of that? Maybe I wouldn't have gone 4-4 with those energies. Should have used my stamped Prof Rowan's too. Too busy organizing I guess... grumble grumble.
