Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

...Something bothered me about Worlds...

Well, In my practice against foreign players, there is usually no problem. If your playing at worlds, you know most of the cards that are going to be played, so there is no problem.

When I played Yamato last year, we barely spoke to each other during the game, cause we both knew what was going on.

He used 1 card ive never seen played, the pikachu d boxtopper with the paralyzing attack. He flipped heads and then turned my card. I knew what was going on after asking if that was a paralyze flip.

I then later in the game had 2 options, doing 20 damage, or toxic.

I placed the 2 counters and showed Yamato to wait, and i grabbed my poision counter. He knew exactly what it meant.

So with my observations, there shouldnt be any confusion.

*coughs politely*

back on topic, please?

You tell um 'mom.

At 05 Worlds I played a girl from Norway, everytime she needed something she stood up with a sign that said Norway on it and a translater came over and told he what the card did. The only one she asked about was Metagross DX though.

Sorry for a bump but just to let you know that ALL going well for me with HUGE thanks to one PokeDaddy :D

note: i have hearing impairment ;P

Jason -

You are very welcome.

For those who do not know, POP assigned me as the judge for all of Jason's matches. What this young man does given his impairments borders on nothing but amazing. Jason has to remember every card his opponent plays onto the field due to sight limitations. Jason is also hearing impaired. Hand (these are bigger than card font) motions went a long way to keep play moving. After the second round, things went smoothly as we worked together on the best ways to communicate.

Jason needed to have a Judge at the table so that >any< communication or issue or ruling could and would be resolved in an equitable and timely fashion. This level of inclusion by PUI is phenomenal.

Fun was had when we had a non-English speaking player. Any comments would go to the translator, to me, and I would write them down for Jason to read.

I will tell you this, there are several players out there (and you know who you are) that think certain things may be funny. It's not. Jason has, as a player, adapted to his limitations to be a World Class Pokémon player.

Thanks Dave, Mike, & Pete for giving me this unique opportunity.

v/r,
Steve

gj jade! all jokes aside, you did way better than any of us expected (us being the other omarchat regulars) and you may now speak even when not spoken to (outside of the omarchat.)
glad everything went smoothly for you!

i played against a japanese guy and a german guy who didnt speak english
we just used hand signals, and it worked out fine

"We all speak the universal language of Pokemon!"

Yeah what does that mean? "Pika-Pika!" or "Wobbbbbbbuffet"

Poliwag92 - If you don't have anything nice to say, keep it to yourself. Your continued use of monitor muscle is unsat.

speaking of speaking pokemon, where was that little japanese girl who did the pikachu impressions last year
i was going to get it on camera and show it to my friends, its so funny and cute at the same time

she's a so. CA resident, so wasn't at worlds this year. isn't there video/audio of her on last year's worlds site?

"We all speak the universal language of Pokemon!" Yeah what the **** does that mean?

How about two people being able to follow the exact same rules for a game whose rulebook they read in two entirely different languages? And how about one player just looking at a Rayquaza ex d and a Sceptile ex d, his opponent (who doesn't understand a word of his language) instantly understanding why a judge is being called and what question is being asked?

\"We all speak the universal language of Pokemon!\"

Yeah what the **** does that mean? \"Pika-Pika!\" or \"Wobbbbbbbuffet\"

people who have never known each other gathering in one area for the same prupose, playing against others whom they will have never met or seen were it not for this game, and all for the common purpose of having fun
...
besides that?
no clue

I wish I was more aware of Jason's issues. Otherwise I would've been less of a [jerk], and much more talkative. =/

(lol) =x

Out of curiosity, at worlds when you battle someone from a different country are they always using foriegn pokemon cards? Because I think that would be really neat.

No they don't always use their language. Sometimes the Japanese even trade for English cards with the purpose of making it less confusing.

Vs Pat B from Switzerland, he used English cards
Vs Steffen S. F. from Denmark, he used English cards mostly with a few German.

No seriously, I mean it. I've been talking to Jason on AIM for a while now, and he's a good dude.

The previous statement was me just bashing myself. Had I been aware of his circumstances, I would've attempted to communicate through nonverbal means (writing messages on my notebook paper, pictochat, etc).
