spazcrackers TX Regionals Report 2nd in Masters

Hey everybody;I hope you all had a great time at regionals! I played in TX this time. I tested Machamp,Kingdra,Dialga,Legos,Tyranitar, and AMU and after all was said and done it was a split between champ and pixies. I decided to stick with my trusty AMU which took 1st and 2nd at states this year for me. Anyways on to the report;I'm pretty bad with names so please feel free to fill in the gaps if you played me.

R1 vs. Weavile/Drapion
I got a great set to an average one,I simply had a better deck.
1-0

R2,3,4,5 I played Jorel with Porygon Z in which he had a poor hand to my great one,Steve with Dialga/Palkia in which I'm way ahead early but he fights back mid-game and I hang on to win by 1 prize,a guy with a 1-1 line of everything who was a great sport, and a Gengar. I won all games but the Gengar in which I was down 5-1 before I could even get started (poor hand for me) to a great one for him. All I had left was an Uxie to a full set;rather then scoop I play one of the most epic turns ever and get 6 pokes out and push the game 2 more turns;only to still lose by 5;always try. :)

4-1

R6 vs. Taylor from Oklahoma w/Machamp
He gets a very poor start to a pretty good one for me,I'm playing what looks to be a shut-out but he's got a lot of heart and sticks around to take a couple of prizes;I have a great deal of respect for players like that.

5-1

R7 vs. another Machamp guy/with Rampardos
A close goes that is about to turn his way goes bad when he tries to take out my active with an unown G attached using his champ X,i seize the chance and counter for a KO that turns the game to my favor. at this point he is like i don't even want to play anymore, but he mans up and plays it out like a good sport.

6-1

So with two flights I am 4th on mine, persons I know made top are Matt L,Mike P,Martin M,,Jordan D,and Johnny K are all in top as well.

So i draw Ketts in top 16.

T16 vs. Johnny w/Porygon Z

Game 1-It's back and forth with me having a slight edge, however I misplay and give up a KO when I didn't have to,allowing him to tie and come back to make it 1-1,now I have to hit my last energy pickup ftw;and I do.

Game 2-We both have great sets and it's back and forth again and time is called,Johnny is 3 prizes in and I'm 2. I win because of the 4-prizes to count thing. (lame)

7-1

T8 vs. Whicker w/AMU+Leafeon X
So he was undefeated going in after punishing people all day in swiss,i was really looking forward to this game to test my build against a solid mirror and another great player.

Game 1-We both get everything rolling and have the Azelf (MT) forcing extra energy attachments for us both. He misses all of his level max and I miss most of my energy pickups (those dice we had to use on top kinda sucked lol). So after a well played out game for us both it's 3-1 in his favor, and I make a comeback when I return my just KO'd Azelf (MT) to play, take a KO,then hit and energy pickup FINALLY for another KO,then energy switch to KO ftw. Great game.

Game 2-We both have good sets and it's really close,he is up 3-2 and time is called (lame again),so I',m declared the winner,he goes show me the ernegy switch and i won't feel bad;so I show him energy switch, energy pickup, and cynthia's feelings. he shakes my hand like a great sport and tells me to go win the tournament.

8-1

T4 vs. Adam w/Dialga
So adam stayed with our group the night before and we played this game 5 times in which I won 3 and he won 2 so we know it's going to be good.

Game 1-Epic good game in which I barely win.
Game 2-Another epic good game in which time is called and I win;I think I had it anyways to be honest;but close nontheless.

9-1

T2 vs. Martin w/Dialga

Game 1-He is having a field day as I stuggle to set-up,I'm making the right moves, but so is he and since he is ahead and Ko's my Uxie X mid-way I scoop.

Game 2-My set-up was explosive;he scoops 2 Ko's and 5 minutes in.

Game 3-We go back and forth and control of the game shifts with each turn,I have a chance to push ahead with 2 energy pickups if either is heads and both are tails. :) a few minutes later time is called on my turn;it's 4-2 and I'm down I can only take 1Ko so i lose on time;however I ask to play it out for fun and he agrees. I make it 3-2.he makes it 3-1,I make it 2-1 and he scoops with no attackers left to counter and says you would have won this game it not for time.

So I had a great time, and although I lose the finals on time, all of my top-cut opponents went out the same way against me;so i can't complain. I feel that I had the hardest schedule in top-cut facing Kettler,Whicker,Adam, and Martin;I'd have it no other way. 1 hour is simply not enough time for extremely talented and evenly matched players that both have great decks to play a best of 3 and complete it;especially not when allowed 40 minutes for a single game in swiss. However,we were there until past 2 in the morning and had we ran longer rounds the lights would have been cut out on us at the location. Having said that I feel that the right decision was made on Mike Cook's part in running hour matches;I'm sure he would allow longer times if he weren't under the conditions of no lighting being an issue. Overall,a smooth and well run event.

Props
-Martin,Adam,Whicker,Johnny,Matt,and Mike for great showings.
-Katie for going undefeated in St. Louis with Kingdra;DOES IT!
-Staff;on a job well done.
-Buca di Beppo's!
-Chas dad for treating everyone to Buca di Beppo's.
-Wayne for being chill and warming up before the event. Martin as well.
-All of my opponents who played me epic good games all day long;especially in top.
-Nancy.

Slops
-riding in the back of the hatch-back for the lunch trip
-pulling a crappy pokemon on my poke-ball drawing
-beating martin before the tournament and losing to him on time in the finals LOL

Good job on the 2nd place finish bro. I hate that time gave you trouble. We had to shorten the time for our top cut as well, and everything finished at like 3:30. Crazy stuff.

Hey at least we had 2 REAL games in a row.

In our last game I would have been able to go to sudden death if i would have gotten a night maintence. So when i searched my deck Night maintenence was the next card =[.

No big deal though I still called 3rd =D

Great job Brent. As always, you play a great game and give a lousy report!
I wish I'd have been there to see you play......
You are like the son I never wanted.

Awesome job Brent!

Seriously though, our Game 1 was one of the sickest games I've ever played. I didn't mind losing on time because I knew the better player had been decided on that game alone.

Ceph-much thx :)

Mike Cook-Thanks for hosting another regionals that was up to the hype.
Tina-Indeed,indeed. Thanks anyways. :]
Euroxsis-Props on undefeated at regionals! 11-0 is hot hot hot!
Adam-Thanks for all the practice, helped a bunch. Props to you as well on a nice finish, and at least we did have good games in the event woot! Nice job calling your place with hundreds of ppl. ZING GOOD.
Rick-Thanks for making me feel like we are family without the same last name. ;)
Whicker-You played great,we both made one or two misplays I'm sure but your game is tight and your a smart guy,I think you put just a bit too much pressure on yourself sometimes;work around that and I think you take your game to the next level. Just some friendly advice. ;)
Rew-I think I know who the first one is! :D

thanks again everybody! :)

Congrats on the 2nd place. I wish you won though, but Time is a stupid way to lose in this game.

Great job Brent. Not quite up to what you wanted I'm sure but great nonetheless. You need to come back down so we can hit up room 52 again ;)

Congratulations on 2nd- I know you wanted 1st but 2nd is better than 3rd and so forth

Thanks for the props :thumb:
