I wouldn't want to report this, but I'd just like to know for the future whether or not this is legal.

However, 10 seconds to review the new card you drew and do a game action (whatever that is. I asked "discard what", not "discard where") is certainly reasonable and it should be allowed.
The new card drawn could affect what you want to do.
