the attack states "if any energy card attached to Spenda is the same type as any energy card attached to the defending pokemon, discard one of those energy cards from the defending pokemon.

If you have a multi or rainbow energy would that remove any basic energy, special dark & metal energy? How about other special energys, like upper and call, since they are colorless?

Poke Pop answered this in the "ask the Rules Team" section

Q. Spinda has a Cyclone Energy attached, which counts as a colorless energy, and uses its "Synchro Removal" attack. Can it discard an Upper Energy from the defending Gallade?
A. Yes, it may be discarded by this attack, because the type of energy attached to Spinda is the same as that of Upper Energy on Gallade. (Sep 3, 2008 PUI Rules Team)

Q. Spinda has a Rainbow Energy attached, which counts as every type of energy, and uses its "Synchro Removal" attack. Can it discard a Call Energy from the defending Luxray [GL]?
A. Yes, Call Energy may be discarded by this attack, because the types of energy attached to Spinda includes colorless, the same type as that of Call Energy. (Sep 3, 2008 PUI Rules Team)
