As you all know, Worlds was a huge sucess. I think it had to mostly happen because of this simple statement that was in the Welcome Packet for players. Those who went to the PTO meeting at Origins know that this was coming and we all looked forward to it. This is going to be found in the Floor Rules when it is updated so look out for that.

Spirit of the Game

The Pokemon TCG is a game of skill. The concepts, characters and atmosphere of friendly competition are why so many love to play the game. Being part of a well-orchestrated game is exciting for everyone involved. It is with this attitude that we want to emphasize the true spirit of the Pokemon TCG.

While there are prizes to win and titles to earn, the Spirit of the Game requires good sportsmanship and adherence to the rules from all players and volunteers.

This spirit should guide the conduct of players as well as the tournament judges as they interpret the game rules.

The following behaviors comprise the true Spirit of the Game:
  • Have Fun!
  • Play Fair - A true Pokemon player would rather lose a good game of Pokemon, than win by cheating.
  • Observe the rules - No good Pokemon player would ever deliberatly break the rules. However, if he or she were to inadvertently do so, and be aware of it, they would be the first to divulge the penalty to their opponent and the judge.
  • Respect players, event staff and spectators - A good Pokemon player never attempts to distract an opponent, or otherwise prevent him or her from making the best possible play.
  • Display good sportsmanship at all times
  • Help others learn and enjoy the game
While the objective of a Pokemon TCG is to determine the skill level of each player, the ultimate goal is to uphold the Spirit of the Games. By honoring this spirit, we can make Pokemon Organized Play more fun and rewarding for everyone!
Wow that is alot isn't it? Almost everyone showed true spirit of the game at Worlds and we greatly appriciate it. I promise to uphold it and now I feel like a whole new professor and trainer. I have made new goals for myself and I hope to become one of the greatest trainers there will ever be. I don't mean by greatest as in titles or competition but what I mean is... well you'll see what I mean. I hope this message means something to all of you.

Heh, as one of many who believes that he knows what spirit of the game is ALL about, I have one thing to say.

Spirit of the Game was the absolute CHEESIEST thing I've heard in years. Thank god Monkeyman8889 had his backpack, or I would have fallen asleep without a pillow -_-

I think it was cheesy too

but I understand why they did it
and I think it was a good thing and many people followed it

it just reminded me too much of YGO

I disagree, i completely believe in the spirit of the game and i'm always striving to not become overtaken by the urge to win. After getting squashed in Stadium challenge, having fun and appreciating everything became most important to me. I'm with you on this mysterioustrainer

Oh, I dont try to win, just to have fun. But all the spirit of the game does remid me of my days of YGO!, which disgusts me now, but, nonetheless, has taught me something...NEVER underestimate a certain deack until AFTER you played with it the right way.

I completely believe in the spirit of the game. Don't try to think of it like ash stating he is going to be the best pokemon master he can be. I think of it, be the best player you can be. Be nice and respectful to all the players and they will hopefully be the same towards you. Don't cheat, and don't accuse others of cheating.

I feel many people throw the spirit of the game right out the window after big events like Worlds. Some become greedy or some try to make up excuses to why they lost in a match. But the real player can just laugh and tell themself that they will be a better player the next time they meet and that is the best a player can do.

I completely agree Prime. Especially after worlds i heard all this nonsense about the japanese players cheating. i would be thrilled if i even went to worlds, like i was when i went to the stadium challenge. Grant it, the stadium challenge was not as big but being surrounded by great players and great challenges is what the whole thing is all about. Pushing yourself and just having fun is what this games all about.

Heart of the cards, spirit of the game, whatever.

Don't cheat, respect your opponent, and don't cheat.

There you go!

Oh, I dont try to win

Then do you try to lose?

The object of the pokemon TCG is to win the game WHILE having a good time. Not to just have a good time. You don't come in and try to lose on purpose.
-_-

Oh, I believe in the spirit of the game, having fun and all. But they way this thing makes it sound is just too much. =/ Seriously, anybody who plays the game plays it because they have fun already, so why should you add that to the floor rules. (Except the no cheating part, I like that part. Just change it to the "Honesty Policy" and you're fine.

I dont TRY to lose, I just play for fun. If I win, I win, If I lose I lose...Doesnt really matter, unless worlds is at stake... :)

ukpokemonpro - Ban me? NOT A CHANCE! ^_~ Teehee! o_O

Magnor - When you play the Pokemon TCG, you have one of three objectives. Those three objectives are three different ways in which to win. You either are attempting to win or you're attempting to lose. You are playing to win when you play Pokemon, even if you're also trying to have fun. It's not called "not trying to win", because you ARE trying to win. I hope you don't play to lose.

Hmm...never thought of it that way...I AM trying to win I guess, but sometimes winning just doesn't feel fun...and when you lose you just have to look at yourself and laugh...Well, for some people anyway. Other than the occasional losses, I'm happy just playing, whether or not I win.
