Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Spread donk viable?

I'm testing out a new strat for when BW arrives. It involves forretress LA to deal massive spread via its pokebody and emboar. Unown return repeats everything for the lulz, sweeping everything regardless of bench size.

After testing, I've realized that, like gatr, energy is a serious problem. I'm also struggling to get both emboar and forretres out T3 latest wih any form of consistency, although that may be due to the inclusion of ninetales.

Yes, I know, it's super flippy. But the chances of a huge number of tails from a huge number of energy drops is just low. Four tails is still very manageable with 8-10 energy (4-5 + unown return/seeker).

If you get out Emboar + Forry, it shouldn't matter when you do...you can donk/kill everything in play at that point.

Don't "donk". Just take the time to get the cards you need to set up, and drop all the energy at once when the time is right. Spiritomb can help by slowing them down while you prepare.

There was a deck very much like this before Emboar, using Blastoise SW, so you can do some searches for that kind of deck list and see what you come up with.

Hm... Looks like blastoise is far superior than emboar. The latter unfortunately cannot allow the opponent to take more than five prizes, since its dropping energy one by one.

Cyrus and sableye might be a more viable choice than spiritomb I guess. I'll have to test it without ninetales.

Emboar is WAAAAY better!!! You can attach straight to anything and it doesn't end your turn!! Also it can't be Psychic Binded!!! It is combos like this that make a mid season rotation mandatory.

Someone had this proxied at a league I went to a few months back...the concept is sound. The deck itself is clunky and doesnt work how you want it to.

A+ for creativity, but a C at best in execution which will kill you.

No, it doesn't work that way. Like gatr, you are attaching energy one by one, not one shot like toise. Which means if one drop lets your opponent take the last prize, you don't get to attach anymore, game over.

Speed is essential for this to work.

Emboar IS better than Blastoise.
Can't be sprayed, and with high energy counts will let you Interviewer's Questions for lots of energy.

Bump for test report.

Like Cetra said, the concept is certainly sound. I've won several matches without breaking a sweat once it's setup, since it doesn't matter what my opponent has, provided it's not a belted t-tar or anything with higher HP than 160. Heck, even murdered Vilechamp with TWO primes in play, 3 prizes down. Against luxchomp, I just need to keep spiritomb active to prevent sprays, and baits to keep Emboar alive.

But clunky it is. T3-4 setup is common, but the deck is EXTREMELY weak to judge or any form of hand disruption, since I depend on energy STAYING in my hand. Bronzong cycler may be an option, but it's yet another pokemon to search out. Blissey prime is a tech I'm looking at, since the only pokemon without damage counters is the only pokemon getting energy.

My current deck list:

Pkmn(20)
3-2-2 emboar
2-2 forretress
3 spiritomb
2 sableye
2 uxie
2 unown return

TSS(28)
4 BTS
1 lux ball
2 PONT/lookers
3 collector
2 bebe
2 comm
3 cyrus
2 interviewer
3 twins
2 seeker
2 VS seeker
2 rescue

12 fire

More spiritombs than sableyes because I find that it's a lot easier to collector and darkness grace than impersonating every turn, which I can still do after T1. Rescue is the magic card that allows me to flip 12 times from a mere 4 energy cards (normal attachment, unown return, KO the unown, rescue it back).

If brozong or blissey goes in, I can replace interviewers, which is iffy at best, rubbish at worst.

Thoughts?

You guys forgot a really really important card in the deck. I don't really know if Team Hatter want to keep it secret so I won't say it :p

This deck idea is beautiful! The format makes it more compatible than when the S.S. Anne deck was around.

Twins are a definite here. You won't be getting prizes until all those energy are dropped, and setting up shouldn't cost you so much.

One card you should definitely add is this:
Professor Araragi
Trainer’s – Support
Discard your entire hand, then draw 7 cards from your deck.
You can only use 1 Support card during your turn.

Why? because once your set up, you can drop cards from your deck that would have had there "one time use." (i.e. if you had all your pokemon set up and in play, you wouldn't need bebe's or bts. So why risk drawing into it?)

*edit*
also found Research Record in CL (call of legends). That would be a trainer you should definitely try to fit in.

correct me if i'm wrong but didn't forretress get erratad to only using the power once per turn and therefore destroying the concept completely?

The only errata was that the card says "you MAY flip a coin" but it actually isn't optional, you have to do it whenever you attach a basic energy from your hand. You can find all erratas in the Compendium.
