Fully a dozen Porch sitters, and another half dozen who are on the steps. I think it might be time for the Porch requirements to go up somewhat...

For this time, having 1/3 hit the porch seems perfect.

I would love to see over half (and it was CLOSE) of the events hit the century...and then we will raise the stakes!

With all my folks who fled or did not show up >_> I was REALLY happy with 109. 17 more players and we would have been out of room!

NOT MY FAULT!!! I've said for years that my gremlins are the worst in the world. My initial ride fell through when he was forced into working. My backup had a family issue in the VERY last minute. It's really not worth it to drive 6 hours (total) without somebody to help with the finances...

Yes, considering we in Rockford also had a lot of our regulars who weren't there for one reason or another, we could have easily hit the 150 mark had they shown up as well. Looks like big turnouts across the board!

Please allow larger top cuts at states next year 111 people in California and only a top 8!!! That is just not right.

If not for venue and staff restrictions, I'd agree with you completely. T8 is totally inappropriate for that many people in a single age group. T16 is even a little bit low for that many people IMO.

Proposal for next year: Have the maximum top cut of a particular event be set to one round more than what the potential prizes might be. For example, if there are prizes for the top 8 finishers, make the maximum top cut 16. There are a whole SLEW of players who are simply happy to MAKE a top cut, much less prize in an event. I think that, at virtually all levels, it's a prize in and of itself simply to make the top cut and be recognized as one of the top players in a given event.

Yes, no need for prizes for 9-16 finishers who loose in T16. Not everyone who top cuts has to get a prize.
But everyone who performed well in swiss deserves a chance at getting a prize. There has always been only prizes for the top 8 in states, even when there was a top 16 at states there were only prizes for the top 8. I have mentioned this example many times before... Back in 2006 I went 5-1 in Oregon States. I was the #2 seed, and I lost in the T16 2-1 to my wife who was the #15 seed with a 4-2 record.

She got prized for making T8 and I did not get anything for T16. Was I disappointed that she got prizes and I did not? Of course not because I knew going into the Championship that prizes were to only be given out to the T8 finishers in each age group. So when people know that prizes are only for the Top 8 or Top 4 in an event, no one who does not place that high will ever expect a prize.

Also as there is no longer any playoff for 3rd and 4th place shouldn't there be a little trophy or something for 4th place as well. It is silly to let the tiebreaker score establish who gets hardware and who does not
if two people have identical records in the event and they did not face each other.

The trophy is a nice idea. After all, coming in 4th means a lot of card playing, especially if it's a top cut of 8 or 16. I think a pack of cards for 9-16th place would be good. I know, all those prizes add up. I'd be tickled to make the top cut. I did once in a Battle Road, losing to MR. Raichu, but I made him go 3 games!

LOL you should have Wagered him in the 3rd game and then you would have won after he shuffled his discard pile into his deck. (Who said that).

I cant say anything I have never once top cut in a Battle Road, 5th three times but never top cut yet.

I can't see much wrong with a T8 even with 111 entrants. However I am assuming that there are sufficient Swiss rounds to give all entrants a good chance at demonstrating their skill and overcomming a little bad luck. Unfortunately 7 swiss rounds isn't really enough to achieve this. So my hope for next year would be that Swiss+1 or even Swiss+2 is an option at the biggest events. But I'm not holding my breath.

Porch sitters are TOs who run very large events.

It is an inside joke, or comment, of sorts.

If you get a lot of people at your events, you are "sitting on the porch"

Team Cook Dad Runs the porch.

It appears that the group from California, Oregon, and Florida are managing it with him!

A 4th place Trophy would be nice or aleast allow you to play for one(no points involved)
