Steelix?

Does anyone think Steelix is still viable in the current format or an HGSS on format? If so, what techs are to be used to get past reshiram? I've personally been testing with lanturn prime and found that it works okay, but I would like to hear some other peoples' takes on it.

Samurot with ability is really good i've found but it is slow. It takes out reshiram and donphan in 1 hit while both need to 2 hit it to knock it out. It might fit in well with steelix because they both run dce and it doesn't need water energy to attack which is great! Catcher might ruin it though...

I think Drifblim is a pretty cool guy. eh kills aleins and doesnt afraid of anything.

I guess what I meant to say was healix, that is the deck that I am running and referring to.

I'm sure he meant Zoroak. Anyways, it's not viable this format. Reshiboar is the deck to beat right now, and Steelix really doesn't have a chance.

And you are completely confident that it is impossible to tech against reshiboar?

You'll need to find a way to one shot it consistently or you'll lose the prize race. You won't even be able to use your main attacker in the matchup.

I just had an epiphany: Steelix runs over EVERYTHING in this format...except fire (and Magnezone)...

So, I found myself asking, is it worth it? I'm undecided, but I'm about to embark an a Journey to find out. I've been holding off to see the format shift, but I think I will go ahead and start testing it. I have a lot of good ideas and I'm fairly confident that Steelix will have an easy enough matchup once catcher is released. But for now, there are a few easy fixes that make this deck pretty good.

But, to answer the OP, is it viable? Very much so, as long as you can avoid fire, lol. What I mean is, not everyone one of your matchups are going to be fire (emboar). Assuming Emboar decks emcompass 40% of the field, you should win 60% of you matches with ease. Statistically speaking, its a pretty good play.

I think a 2-2-2 Samurott would take care of reshiram

Not really, no.

The issue is that Samurott can't fulfill the OHKO as well as Reshiram can, so what that means is that if you're playing a Reshiram build with a versus-water tech or Pluspowers + Junk Arm (which are many out there), then you're still fighting a battle against time.
