Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Sunday Live from U.S. Nats - Winners announced!

I have the grapes right now!

Colin does brilliantly with "Big T"/"Cosmic Storm" but Mike, Lynn, and I fail with it. Colin is so much better than me. I only wish I had a decent hand at Nats and a decent matchup, but this was my 1st Nats, and I am rather impressed that I lost one of the games on my OWN terms....SSU FTW!

Personally, I would have rather seen Torterrible win. Oh well. I'd say T4 wasn't that exciting.

Does anyone know what the T4 players in SR se and what won?

Orion Craig(Xtreme Pillow Fighter) won against a Empoleon deck in Top 2!!! I actually got a Good chance to Playtest against him which was rather fun!

I probably should know who you are, but I've been away too long. Anyway, since I don't know where you are in the ratings, I can't comment on your numbers in particular.

But I have been running some math as it relates to my brother, Bobby M., who was 34th in Master in NA going into the event--he went 6-3.

What I think it comes down to for anyone on the cusp is strength of schedule. If you lost three or more games, and were not over 1900, you probably have to come out of the weekend with a net gain to remain in what is essentially a "Top 41" pool.

I don't think anyone under 1900 will be able to break even and remain in the running, because there are simply too many X-2s and X-3s that are going to jump them.

In Bobby's case, there are two estimates that I've worked out, not knowing who he played.

Three losses at -30 each = -90 points
Six wins at +20 each = +120
Net gain: 30

In this model, I think the player makes it.

Three losses at -30 each = -90
Six wins at +15 each = +90
Net gain: 0

In this model, player probably misses.

Now, at 5-4, you can do your own estimate...but you're going to have to hope for a very strong +/- on the day.

Well, the rankings updated, and it shows me going down 71 points, from 1895 to 1824. That is of course a HUGE hit, but I'm a little skeptical, because my strength of schedule was actually relatively high (over half of my opponents started the day 1750 or above, and my first loss was to a person above 1840 by round two).

Lots of the rankings appear to be very messed up (Alex H./Mikey F./etc not moving up, Emmanuel D. only going down 25 for 5-4, etcetcetc), so I'll just hold my breath for a little while, and see how things end.

some of GG's dominance is due to its effectiveness in the 30 minute single game swiss format.

Does Japan play untimed or timed games in their knock out format?

===================

congrats to Henry, Gino and Orion,

AAnother reason GG is unplayable in japan is that, as far as i know, Here comes Team Rocket is still legal.

I KNEW IT I KNEW IT EMPOZONG DIDN'T BEAT PLOX!!!

Now PLox will be seen at Worlds alot, I have a feeling.

empozong is not the threat for beating plox, it would be sausage or torterra. Of course the mirror match is hard to beat as well. Gino beat me with his cuz he had a few techs I was not ready for and I had a terrible draw the first game, but it happens oh well thats ok. I still get to go to worlds and take my revenge haha. I have learned the last bit of the puzzle and I am now ready to win worlds, provided my luck stays with me. :)

Does anyone know when this will all be sorted out?

Has Mexico Nationals been updated?

When is Canada's Nationals?

I dont know, I wish someone from POP would let us know.

No, it hasn't.

This weekend.

On a side note, Jim, I used a different method. All 4 of my losses were to players over 1780. (1800, 1867, 1863, & 1787). Now, I started at around 1845. Now, we know the K-Value is 44. Which means if I play someone close to me I lost about 22 points. But all of my opponents were close to me. Including the 1867 who I played in T64 and had gone 7-2 in swiss which was 1 more win then me. So he was even higher. If I did the math and said I lost about 90 points from my 4 losses. and that my 6 wins were against players who I gain an average of 13.50 points which I feel is very reasonable, I would end up down about 9 points. It is about where I am right now, but I am actually down about 10-12. Which is interesting because Jason posted a rating that I never had that I assume he looked at right before Nats started. If that is the case I lost 2.50 points for absolutely no reason. I am very interested in see how I did and where I was after each round. I think giving 20 points for a win is a bit much though.
