OK, let's see if there is really interest, since everyone will be in town anyway.

Please post here if you are going to attend, and other interesting comments.

Meg's Cash Encounters.....You think a $300 travel stipend is big? Try THIS!

We are going to hold the 1st (annual?) Cash Tourney - Unsanctioned .

Why unsanctioned? Because, we are not holding it age-modified swiss.

All Entrants will be assumed to be the SAME AGE for pairing purposes.

This means the little 10 year old wunderkin could face big Chuck or Ness in round 1!

$10 entry fee. Not too little, not too much.

90% of the entry fee will be returned in the form of prizes.

50/30/10/10 is the breakdown of structure for prizes. (With 23 or more players)

$100 will be the MINIMUM top prize, if we have 12 or more entrants (which we had better)

If we have 12 players, breakdown is $100/8/0/0
If we have 13 players breakdown is $100/17/0/0
If we have 14 players, breakdown is $100/26/0/0
If we have 15 players breakdwon is $100/31/2/2
If we have 16 players breakdown is $100/32/6/6
If we have 17 players, breakdown is $100/35/9/9
If we have 18 players, breakdown is $100/40/11/11
If we have 19 players, breakdown is $100/45/13/13
If we have 20 players, breakdown is $100/50/15/15
If we have 21 players, breakdown is $100/51/19/19
If we have 22 players, breakdown is $100/60/19/19
If we have 23 players, breakdown is $105/62/20/20
If we have 24 players, breakdown is $110/66/20/20

And so on up the ladder.

We will do a standard top cut (no more than 8) to decide the prizes

Top cut will be 2 of 3, 1 hour time limit. Stalling strictly judged.

The store is not going to make a mint on this, but they are willing to do it.

Could be the BRAWL Release at the Store too!

So, are you all in?

What do we think?

Vince

Note - I am just reporting this, the store is putting this on. I am going to be a PLAYER.

(never cashed, never will - don't have the skillz)

I remember a card shop doing some cash tournaments here in Florida with a prize payout that looked like 200/100/50/? or thereabouts. Heidi judged for it iirc.

I'm hoping to have a structure that will pay out similarly. I might have to do a 20 entry fee.

Vince, since it is unsanctioned, have you considered modifying the rules a bit? Like... turn extensions after time, or swiss time changes, etc?

This sounds like the day after States... If I can make MO States, then I'll stick around for this. If not, then I won't.

I'm kind of afraid of the potential judge for this event assuming you are indeed playing, Vince.

...sigh

no event can be perfect, I suppose

Straight cash, and the judging system will be the "Team of 3" system that has been used at the past in unsanctioned events.

It is not a PUI event, so there is no judge support, and I am not going to stand around and do it for free, I am going to play.

If we were doing full judge support, only about 60-80% of the prize pool would be given as prizes. Not the intent here.

Have no fear, I am still the judge for the event, along with 2 other players in the event.

By having 3 judges, we insure that there is always a judge to rule upon an issue, and time extensions are given for all 3 matches affected by judges having to leave their tables to judge.

It works out really well.

At a high level event like this, players are pretty straight laced. You would think it would increase cheating, but I have found exactly the opposite. When you know you are being judged by Vince, Chuck and Ness (or whoever the 2 others are) you tend to figure a lot of your tricks will be pretty transparent to us. Penalties tend to be harsh, as the stakes are high. It is treated as a Regional for Penalties.

pp we had this event once, where all top 4 players agreed with you, and instead of playing it out they split the top 4 prizes equally.

$20 entry, everyone walked away with over $70.

Non-sanctioned event, so it was allowed. If the T4 want to do that again, it may be allowed again.

Vince

I like the idea, but I think your should be a least 2 groups
10 and under ---give the little guys a chance
10 and above

We have done a prize for the highest finishing Junior player, if not in the cash.

Problem was, in the last 3 times it was done, a Junior CASHED! in the top 4!

Vince

Soooooooo can we move the whole "free brawl for all" to this date? I'll go purchase the copies myself if necessary (provided I get the money for it =P)

I will be doing sign-ups for this event at States, to make sure there is interest. If we do not get 20 participants, I will cancel, as it is going to be enough trouble getting away for 2 straight days for Pokemon anyway.

Vince

Assuming you do get 20+ people for the pre-registration on Saturday and the event is a go, can players still register that Sunday of the event?
