Super Mega Ultra Extreme Sudden Death!!!!

I thought this was pretty funny and I ought to share it.

At the BR I attended today, the most interesting match was my 2nd round Swiss Match. I was playing against Super Goku Ken (as he is known on the gym) and he was using a deck which included Electrode SW.

At the game neared the end, we had a 1-1 prize split and knowing it would result in a sudden death he used ion blast and we both took out last prize, and both of us had a bench.

This led to sudden death. We each place out 1 prize and we shuffle out deck.
We both start with lone starts, he turn 2's an electrode and DRE and uses Ion Blast AGAIN.

So another Sudden death. We shuffle our decks and lay out 1 prize.
By this time we had about 20 people watching us. My oppent says "For the fans!!!" and procceeds to again Ion Blast for 100.

People are actually cheering now.

So we set up for the third sudden death. And I think it was Deja Vu......nope, just another Ion Blast.

At this point it had been about 45 min since Round 2 had started. We both set up and get ready for the FOURTH SUDDEN DEATH . We both got a 2 Pokemon start. He uses Voltrorb and does 20. I go. Then it is his turn again and he evolves to Electrode. People are now chnating "BLOW UP!!! BLOW UP!!!!!" I already has 20 and he finally said "Ok I'll end it now" and only does 40 FTW.

And thus the first Super Mega Ultra Extreme Sudden Death has been played.

You can't have Melee/Brawl type matches in Pokemon.

But seriously, that was actually funny and annoying (because the more you do it, it gets old).

Funny enough, in one of my matches I was trying to force a sudden death, but couldn't do it since I needed a Lake Boundary out to OHKO the opponent's Pokemon.

In an unrelated event, I also T3ed someone with Electrode and Ion Blast, that was funny. It went a bit like this:

T1: Attached energy to Voltorb, ended turn.
T2: They did something...didn't play any Pokemon on their bench, which was what I was hoping for.
T3: Attached Multi Energy to Voltorb, Roseanne'd for a Basic to bench, evolved to Electrode, Ion Blast and gg.

The kicker is that it's actually a decent strategy - a really good one, in fact. Continuing to force sudden deaths until the start is heavily in your favor isn't a bad way to go. Opponent seems to have a better setup? Just blow the 'trode and start over.

I think had he used ion blast to blow up when he could have just won with 40, it would be in violation of SotG and could be disqualified for holding up the tournament. Hilarious though, situations like that are just amazing for spectators.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

In an unrelated event, I also T3ed someone with Electrode and Ion Blast.

I'd call your situation a Turn 2 win. It was your second turn, and that's what decides the turn number.

Electrode is my hero!

I just T1'ed someone with togekiss today. That was to fun.

Yeah, ummmm, that's cool I guess.

Seriously, that really happened?

Dude, that takes real luck, REAL luck indeed.

That's pretty dang sweet. The closest I've ever had to that sort of crazy is 9 consecutive mulligans to start game 2 of the 2006 Gym Challenge finals...

And hahahaha at people cheering for a blow up ^_^
