Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Texas State Championship ~ March 19, 2011

Juniors top 4 was Nikil playing Connor M. from Tomball, Texas (far North Houston) and Austin C. from The Woodlands, Texas (far North Houston) against Dawson (Birch's grandson). Nikil beating Dawson in the finals.

Seniors top 4 was Josh B. (Dallas area) playing a boy from Austin, Texas (forgot his name, I'm sorry) and Cameron C. of The Woodlands, Texas playing Ryan M. of Friendswood, Texas (far South Houston). The boy from Austin and Cameron C. made the finals and Cameron C. won the match.

Thanks Mike!! Looks like a Great representative of Texas in the Top Cuts! Not one dominant area!

Congrats to all the kids!!

Awesome, thanks Mike! Also, the Senior from Austin was Alex M.

To a Jeremy C whom I played 6th round at States:

I accidentally picked up your Dawn Stadium in a Undaunted Sleeve. If you are reading this, PM me and I'll try to figure something out.

Sorry Johnny on letting you down with you prediction, i just couldn't keep up with Paul's revenge kills without Cyrus, i had good hands both games but not a single Cyrus, both games were really fast one KO after the the other, but i couldn't keep up without supporters, oh well maybe next year :) and congrats Paul; the 3rd by the way ;) hope to see you at regionals and hope to get my "revenge" :p

And Dale I'm really sorry for the misunderstanding, sorry dude, let's communicate next time ;) lol

Well to be fair I saw your T4 matchup to be as good as a literal coin flip due to the lists being so similar. So I'm not too let down, lol. :p

Oddly enough, there wasnt a bad call against him, yet he was singled out... I went with two other people. I had to change 3 sleeves, my son one, my friend resleeve. I heard and saw a,lot of people having to resleeve. Last week, I went with 4, I had to replace one, my friend had to resleeve his entire deck over a tiny ding, another failed deck check twice, having to replace 3 cards, and my son only passed because his sleeves and half of his cards were new.
I think what he is getting at is not a matter of a single ruling but how it felt like they were targeted from the start of deck checks. If my understanding is wrong, please disregard.

And this is a bad thing? You're not playing in some little BRs or Cities tournament, this is States, of course we're going to be a little tougher on sleeves, just like Regionals, Nationals, and Worlds.

Did we go overboard? Not at all, we did our job. Would you prefer we relax on deck checks in the morning, then bust your chops at top cut? Keep in mind that deck checks prior to round 1 come with NO penalties, just a few cards asked to be resleeved and a few decks to be resleeved. Can you imagine the penalties we would have to issue at top cut deck checks if we were relaxed on checks earlier?

I can...........

I apologize for my post. It was very late and I left out the end due to utter exhaustion. My intent was actually to defend the judges. I was merely trying to point out that he wasnt singled out and that it was a high level tourny and it wasnt just these judges. You are correct, I apologize for being unclear. No more late night posting...

Master Professor Birch is a great PTO and I love judging for him. He really goes out of his way to make the event fun for everyone
I had a great time on Saturday.
Thank you again for the opportunity!!!
I also enjoyed working with Mike Cook and the rest of the people from Houston who staffed staff and am looking forward to working with him at Regionals again this year.

I just wanted to add that I am very proud of my husband who beat the Oklahoma State Champion in one of his games and didn't even realize who he beat. (I am not bragging, this is a compliment to the Oklahoma State champion he never beat a Top player before.)This was the fist time he did so well at a tier 2 event and came in 25th with a 5-3 record.

I am also very proud of my son in juniors who had a 4-2 record and came in 10th. He was the only player that beat the Dawson in the Swiss rounds and who came in 2nd.

Oliver... I know I was one of the judges who warned you during you match for talking to other players in other games during the match and I told Katie to get out of the playing area after she was through with her match, but quoting the big Fish (Danny) "You should know better!" There is a more higher level of game play expected from you because you are Fish. Your dad would have expected that from us (judging staff) and I wasn't singling you out because you were a Fish, its because you are Oliver and are usually Mr. Chatty Kathy during your games.

Well, I had fun playing the game, although the Judge staff IMHO was just awful, being a fish, and talking to my sister and father about the matter, we ALL got tagged for just being us, so what I am saying, is that the tournament did suck, but putting the negatives aside, it was fun.

Pokedads are bringing it. I couldn't believe it when I saw two Pokedads playing each other at the top table - your husband being one of them. We are becoming a force to be reckoned with within the POKEcommunity.

Reading your original post I knew you were defending the judges. You're not one to harp on judges unless it's an absolute abomination.

I would also mention that I know I said "You're & you" in my response but I was directing the post at everyone. Basically to anyone that wants to question any sleeve issues.

And for the record, it will be the same way at Regionals. Tough but fair, I promise.

There wasn't any calls against me, however I know for a fact my dad and I were in fact singled out due to the fact it is us. There was a ridiculous amounts of re-sleeves, but ours weren't due to dinks, the questioned my sister, I wasn't given an opportunity to fix my problem, and dad was "cheating".

Mike Cook made the same point I make to people all the time. This is a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. That means you're playing in the big boy leagues now, not your local BR or league tournament.
I hope Regionals is as strict, or even more so, because every player walking through that door to enroll in these ultra premiere events should EXPECT to have the judges be more explicit and enforce the rules more strictly.

I believe there was a similar problem with "marked decks" in Oklahoma, and it's now that OK judging crew that is complaining now. As a judge, you of all people should respect what these judges go through, and this tournament was twice the size of Oklahoma.

And if you "know for a fact" your dad and you were "singled out due to the fact it is us", and the profiling was so deliberate in your eyes, don't you think your father should handle this then?

Let's end this futile bickering, congratulate all the participants for playing in a great tournament, and give MAJOR PROPS to Birch, Spotter, all the Judges, and all the runners who made this tournament available for all of us to attend at an awesome venue.

PEACE OUT................

Ah man. I thought you built your deck for one purpose....DESTROY ALL SP DECKS!!!
What happened my man?QUOTE]
Honestly, I had only ever played Donphan against Dialga Chomp, and I always lost to that unkless I donked. But I really thought I had the build to beat Luxchomp. Luckily for me, the luxchompers exposed a great weakness in how they go about beating Donphan. And I will tell you what it is. They leave those doublecolorless energies hanging out like ripe cherries for a few turns each game. I added just two energy removers to my deck, and now victory is gaurenteed. The boys are gonna be shakin in their boots when they see my name up on the pairing at regionals. Regionals is where we make our stand against Luxchomp. Regionals is our Alamo. Regionlas is where we turn the Luxchampions into a bunch of luxchumps.

No one accused me of cheating at Texas states. I feel left out.

O.K. then those three packs of Call of legends that you won that I paid three dollars total for . I gave them to my daughter to open and got nothing good. So there you are now accused of cheating. Oh yeah they were Call of legends so I guess everyone feels that way.
Thanks for buying her GS Cookies.
