you obviously have not played against a decent deck ever if you think a 4/3/4 with celios, bebes and candys cant get a stage 2 out by turn 2 or 3. Its the same odds as infernape, although i would bet a large amount of money that most infernape didnt play 5 search for evo cards.

What holon engine are you talking about? mentor only slows it down

I'll use the example of my local tournaments as i havent tested in any other meta yet. We hvae rgon, t2 kricket, lucario, blissey, magmorter, electivire, and several rouges floating around. In 4 weeks since worlds My "slow" gatr has gone 26-4 using a different list every week with such "idiotic" techs such as tgw. Hmmm what happens if i win a wager, and then discard a card form your hand with gatr? 2 cards left going into your turn, good luck comming back from that electivire.

I would really test before you make judgements

The key is fast cattys with this deck- not your 4-3-4- gatr line w/ candies , etc.
Besides, unless you start with
a toad ( or donk a switch card if you even play them), no way your hitting w/ gatr on t-3 with
your taking a card idea.

I agree, galactic helps the deck more than it hurts ( late game, I play 1) , unless your gatr is t-3
active, loaded and attacking. Then play it. Really depends on the situation. If you have 2 cattys
and a deck full of energy left then great.

I don't know where you play, but imho there is no way gatr goes "26-4" in the state I play in.

Like i said above, time will tell.

edit: Holon engine slows a deck down roflmao !!! So agrees w/ Richard!

Mentor lets me get 3 pokes. The deck needs at least 5 to run properly. Nahhh, i'll run great ball
instead ( notes sarc.)

yes fast cattys are the way to go unless your oppoenent flips over a riolu or kricket and you know they are going to lock your powers, you are better off going for fast gatrs and use cattys as a luxury.

I play in oklahoma which is one of the top areas of the country, we have several players who have top cut at worlds and 15+ us nats. Its in no way a pushover area.

And mentor DOES slow it down, dont know why im trying to poiint this out but i would rather great ball for the skitty and celio for the evo. Once the catty is up you can draw into the basics you need

Draw into your basics? Let me know how that works out for you.

Your right, top-decking what you need w/ ONE catty is def. the way to go . You'll have your bench
full in no time this way ( notes sarcasm)

if you dont get the mentor by turn 3 its pretty much useless.

with so much draw, you're bound to drw into something you ned be it a 2nd skitty/catty or a piece of the gatr line. Its pretty rare to Not have at least 1 catty and a gatr ready to go by turn 3

so, i play cessasion crystal
now you need to topdeck a mentor, a windstorm, and a celio in order to setup
lets assume you have two of those things, for the sake of arguement, we shall say you have a delcatty and a mentor
now you need to topdeck the windstorm
and if you dont, you lose
forgive me for sounding blunt, but if you really intend to play such a deck, you dont have a prayer

IMO from what i have read and gotten caught up on on the last few seasons, some Team will create an awsome SD and sweep cities. The deck will then be posted on the gym, whilst a new one is being made for States. After it sweeps States both will be new archtypes.

Who knows? and who really care? the think when some new arqueotype comes out, it will played it'll win a couple of tournaments and then a counter but until we get all the sets of this season there won't be an ultimate arqueotype for worlds
Right know we have
Infercatty
Flygon variants
Empeleon(i see one with absol ex as tech but pretty standart)
Electivire
Mario
Magamogtar

^for someone new to the game, you catch on pretty quick

I am not new to the game; so much as I am new to the game as run by PUI. I was playing in the days of Super Trainer Showdown and Neo, base set, gym leaders, etc.

I was looking in the deck help and Strategy section and I was running over the Archetypes of last season to see how decks worked these days. And it seemed that a few started out as SDs and eventually became Archetypes

Rai-eggs was an SD
Super Stantler was an SD
Destiny was an SD
R-gon was kind of an SD, more of a Teched Out Surprise

I assume that history will repeat. SDs won back in the days of Gym leaders and Neo. After they made their success, they became well known deck that many built and used. Why should, this not happen again.

or instead of resigning yourself to losing to some sd you can actually come up with something not on this list and break the format yourself.

I do not agree. Decks focusing on Stantler were never powerful. Destiny was not a threat for any part of the season, and I've never heard of a Pokemon called R-gon. Just making up Pokemon dosen't make it archetype status!

SuperWooper makes a good point. If your not a popular player, and you create a great deck, it won't get credited as the next SD. You can tell what the next SD is. Because it's usually played in large numbers by LaFonte. Regardless of if the deck played by LaFonte is any better than any other good deck created by someone outside of LaFonte, if people see the players in LaFonte playing it at tournaments, people will think it's the next SD.

So that comes down to my next question, if the use of the word SD can be manipulated, how useful is it in really describing the format?

i simply assume lafonte never creates a single deck
ever
the only member i see creating is jimmy
ambush was team r, meltdown was a joke, and im sure this trend will continue
