Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The Pokemon Card Garage Episode 1: Excadrill (56/98)

I do agree that 2 Fighting Energy for (60) is a bit high, and puts lighting decks at a considerable disadvantage, so (50) damage it will do. I do not want to make Drill run cost Fighting and two Colorless Energy because I feel that too many cards are depended on Double Colorless Energy right now.

If too many Pokemon depended on DCE, I think the format would have a lot more Lost Remover, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Anyway, nice idea for an article series. Maybe you could collaborate with people in the Create-A-Card Forums for the next one so we can get some more opinions and tweaks before shipping it off for the front page. Just an idea, though.

I hope to see more of these articles in the future!

Hey thanks for your input--I appreciate it.

I think we should take this to the next level, and start doing some online testing where Excadrill is played as you describe in your article. We don't need any fancy software mods, we can just pretend that it reads the modded text.

It could be really interesting IMO. We could do a Hamachi group, or some games on playtcg (my favourite sim).

It'd be a great way to see how these modded cards actually perform against metagame decks.

Okay I made a Hamachi network.

I realize i already said it, but i just really think this would go from good tog reat if you'd take 2 cards at the same time and make make them more synergy reliant. Especially with all the "english exclusive" copies of things EP gave us.

You don't need to change that much to make it playable, all you have to do is change it's second attack from a
:fighting::fighting::fighting: to a :fighting::colorless::colorless:

That would have to come with a reduction in attack output. 70 is probably fair for that energy cost, being a Stage 1 and all...

Very neat idea. It'd be great if the original post could be updated with each member's "version" of the card.

Mine would be:

Excadrill 100HP FIGHTING [because it only has 110 HP base IV, which isn't anything special and his def/spdef is horrible]
ABILITY: Sandstorm -
In between turns, place 10 damage on any Active Pokemon that isn't Fighting or Metal.

C - 20DMG (Metal Claw) - Next turn, all of Excadrill's attacks do +20 DMG to the Active Pokemon.

FCC - 60DMG (Slash) - no effect

Weakness: Water x2
Resistance: Lightning -20
Retreat: CC [80 speed IV isn't bad]

I know I added some stuff, tossed some stuff, but the whole point was to take a boring, perhaps not competitive card, and make it more competitive. I think I made it much more fun and interesting and could have tipped it over the border between competitive/uncompetitive without pushing it too much.

Cool. I like this idea. We can make tweeks to create a new card based on reality, rather than fantasy. :thumb:

I'm new to the game but from my experience Fighting types hit heavy and high energy costs for both attacks and retreating. For the most part, I rarely run any Fighting types.

I LOVE the idea of giving more cards an ABILITY; even if it's a simple one! More Abilities in the game would improve the meta IMO, or at least it would make the game a more fun. :)

Let's combine some ideas ideas here, and then add one of my own.

Excadrill
Stage 1
ABILITY: Sandstorm -
In between turns, place a damage counter on any Active Pokemon that isn't Fighting or Metal type.
100 HP
[F] Metal Claw 30+ This attack does an additional 10 damage if the Defending Pokemon has any damage counters on it
[FCC] Drill Run 70 - Discard an Energy Card attached to the Defending Pokemon
W: Wx2
R: L-20
R: [CC]

Ty, if you're going to give it that Ability, you have to balance it out by weakening the first attack. I rather like the effect that you placed, but the base is a little high. I'd say 20+10 for that attack. Or maybe 10+30. That last one would be pretty fun IMO.

Or maybe just remove the first attack and leave the second attack as is.

Also, change the wording on the ability. For example, Excadrill can only be one type for the TCG, so remove metal and just leave fighting as is for the time being.

Chompy: Notice that the ability can be used from the Bench, which I rather like.

I completely agree with you, there do need to be more cards that even stand a chance in the meta. I do not buy packs of cards anymore since the chances of getting a card that i will be able to play in a competitive format are slim to none.

Take a look at MTG, every pack of cards i have opened, i have been able to fit at least 1, if not more cards into a deck, or at least I will be able to trade.

I like all your ideas for making excadrill playable lol, he needs drill rush attack for FCC that does 80 though, discard an energy from both defending pokemon

What I really want is a large assortment of competitive cards to play with.
