Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The thread of music (updated 7/14/10)

Pretty cool. I can imagine this with soft kinda folky snare beat played with brushes and a mellow kinda piano in the background. I take it this is a riff/accompaniment to a James Taylor-ish melody.

Yeah, I'm working on balance issues. It might be getting performed, so I'm not that bothered with the synthesised version tbh.

I hate Bach and all his stupid counterpoint rules which no professional composer bothers with for the most part. I happen to LIKE parallel 5ths.
Me too.
Needs moar cowbell; also parallel fifths.
Keep it up.

I'm also interested becoming a composer. Do you have any tips to get started like what I should do to record and make music or anything else? I don't need small details. I just need to get the gist of it. Thanks.

If you have AIM or MSN I would be more than happy to talk to you about it sometime. There's quite a bit more to it than you think, so I would rather just talk about it over IM.

The pastor at my parish asked me to write a short intro for his upcoming pod cast. The music is to be played as he introduces him self, and where he is from, while the crescendo where the brass comes in highlights what the topic of the pod cast is.

Before anyone says anything, I know my mixing/mastering skill suck. There's a little bit of static in there that I need to figure out how to get rid of, as well as some other mixing issues. I also think it might need some more percussion other than the one glock.

This piece has been very challenging to orchestrate. The melody was fairly simple, but getting the right balance of all the other parts so as to convey EXACTLY the right emotion has been very tricky.... especially the somewhat unsettling haunting progression about midway through the piece.

It's very important that THAT particular progression sounds right, so please let me know what you thought of it.

Some general notes/thoughts:

This is straight out of Finale, so no mixing or anything. Sorry for the sucky reverb on it.

Even though I spent a long time working out the chords for 1st and 2nd violin, they're still not quite right.

I'm probably going to add, Flute, Glock, and Horns to highlight key parts of the piece.

Please let me know what you think of it, and if you have any suggestions for how I can improve it.

Nice to see the thread being rebooted.

I'd be interested in seeing a score for the piece so I could possibly discuss the orchestration with you.

PM me about it if you're interested in talking about it.

Hijacking your thread, again, DarthPika.

Here's a guitar solo I wrote. I'm actually thinking about turning down the Br00t4lness a little bit and actually using it in that song I posted earlier in this thread, with the last two chords of the solo overlapping with the first two chords of the finger-picking outro. Please tell me what you think.

It starts out pretty good, but then progressively get's really boring. Eventually, it starts to sound like you were just doing basic scales. This is where it would be STRONGLY to your advantage to use some basic music theory of what notes want to move to what notes to give it a little more direction and motion. As of now, there is no tension/release that's really needed to give it some energy. With out this tension/release thing it almost sounds like a "look at me and how fast I can play even though I have no clue what I'm actually doing" kind of thing. If you need help with the theory stuff, just send me a PM/IM and I can help.

pokemon musicians?

i'm wondering how much of the pokemon community is musically inclined. what instruments do you play? have you ever performed with a band? on stage in front of a lot of people? recorded anything? share it with us!!

myself, i play the drums a little bit, although i never got serious with it. more seriously, i've written and recorded two hip-hop albums which i'm really proud of (which i won't post due to questionable lyrical content, but feel free to IM/facebook me for links!).

i have also composed two experimental instrumental albums just for fun, to teach myself more about music production and song structure.

i feel like music is one of the best ways to share yourself...your thoughts, feelings and emotions. it means a lot to me!

Been playing the piano since I was five. Classically trained. Recently, been working on more pop-ish music like John, Joel, and Marx. Incorporating different keyboard sounds and vocal tics into classic performances. Used to perform before ~50 people about twice a year; nothing that organized now. Hoping my camera is good enough to record what I'm doing, though it probably isn't...

Well, I'm actually using arpeggios. :X
But towards the end, it does become more scale related, I guess.

Yeah, though. I know what you're saying. That's the main thing I don't like about it. I haven't really come up with a good resolution for the ending. I just thought I'd post what I had so far to get some opinions. You basically told me what I wanted to hear, so yeah, I'mma keep working on it.

At what point do you consider it to get boring, though? The second time I start playing fast? Because I really like the first legato lick after the second arpeggio and I am going to be really reluctant to remove that. It's really just the end I'm not so content with.

Hit me up in PM and we'll talk about it.

Hey bolt, hit me up on aim sometime. I always like talking to someone else who has a good appreciation for music.

i feel like...my topic was completely different and shouldn't have been lumped in here :(
