"Theme Pokemon" for the Season Speculation

I know that it doesn't go with what I said above, but it's possible it could have something to do with Heart Gold/Soul Silver, seeing as there hasn't been a trophy pokemon from that generation yet.

I agree with this guy. We may just see a brand new generation right here off of HG/SS alone. That being said, I'd love to see Tyranitar up there.

If we're sticking to current sets though, I'm betting Metagross off the fact that he's pretty powerful, a stage 2, and a metal pokemon, something we haven't seen on the promo's yet. We won't see Swampert off the fact that Blastoise was two years ago, or Garchomp thanks to Dragonite. That leaves Metagross or Venusaur, and again, we saw Blastoise two years ago, a starter from Gen 1. Metagross comes from Gen 3, something we haven't seen since Exploud, though it would be more appropriate to throw a Gen 2 in there, seeing as how we have not seen one before and HG/SS is coming up.

However, seeing as how the announcements are typically made before cities (since the promos need to be set up and started for cities thanks to the base line), it will most likely be one of the two above, unless we break tradition and see something from Rising Rivals instead, which is possible based on the fact that Luxray from DP was the promo for 08, which was the set released BEFORE the first that season. All others that I remember (CG Blastoise, LA Dragonite) were the first of the season.

Now, if we're basing it off RR, this opens up:

Flygon (Dragon, unlikely, but would be awesome)
Shiftry (More likely, dark type would open up opportunity for a theme not used yet, and its third gen)
Aggron (See above, metal type)
Beedrill (Also very possible)
Nidoking/Queen (More doubtable off the fact that they're represented as a coupling, a promo type would be awkward off Nidoran lines)
Walrein (Ice type, but still water involved, Blastoise would negate this)

A couple more possibilities open up here, but I'd be better suited to saying Metagross or Venusaur are the most likely. Not that I'd complain to see any of the RR pokemon listed above, and they are possibilities, but not as likely as the other two.

I hadn't noticed that they were all different types each year. Going off all of those facts, it would be narrowed down to Metagross or Venesaur. BTW, by latest set, I mean the newest set we have when BR's start. Not neccesarily the first set to come out that season.

Now, if we're basing it off RR, this opens up:

Flygon (Dragon, unlikely, but would be awesome)
Shiftry (More likely, dark type would open up opportunity for a theme not used yet, and its second gen)

Shiftry and Aggron are very much 3rd Gen.

Whoops! I dont know what I was thinking.

Also, I forgot Rhyperior was in the set as well. He may be safe to throw into the possibilities because he's not a Fighting type like Machamp, instead being a rock/ground type: "Rock your cities? "Grind up the competition?"

Which fire type? Charizard? I don't recall that far back.

And I will reiterate DP Luxray as the 08 nationals pokemon. Mysterious Treasures was the most recent set available for BR's that season, so Rising Rivals is still not out of the question.

I honestly think that Blaziken could pull through on this one. It's received a lot of hype recently. I can already see the catchphrase - Turn up the heat for 2009-2010!

Is there a possibility it could be Arceus? An early release Arceus would be marketing genius. That's a message to POP right there - promote your next set. Once again, I already see the catchphrase - Tighten your seatbelts, hang on to your PokeBalls, this is going to be a Legendary Adventure!"

Wow. I never knew I could come up with such corny catchphrases.

I still think you can't beat a Meganium for a trophy...

Good ol' Meganium

The other choice would be a Plusle/Minum Combo. Those shots always look good.

Meganium would be great as you could have the underlings as well.

But, of that age trio, I think Gatr would work.

Would LOVE to see it be a GS season with Lugia, Ho-oh and Arceus!

^ We would need Chikorita before Cities begin, which means we'd have to go all the way back to MT, something I haven't seen PTCI do yet, as awesome as it would be.

Sorry, I couldn't help it. :p

But a Meganium trophy would be rockin'. Go grass types!

This is a pretty noobish question, but I've never had it answered before. Are these "Theme Pokemon" cards that you receive tourney-legal?

Of course. They are reprintings of a current, tournament-legal card with a City/State/Nationals stamp on it.

Meganium would be appropriate since the game is experiencing...wait for it...wait for it...

WILD Growth!!!

Vince

A wild dinosaur with flowers around its neck may be a bit of a hard sell though!

Then wouldn't Sceptile be more appropriate?
