they would eat hay, oats, grass, and sugar cubes obviously
it is probably better that way, seeing as how hae doesnt exist and thus cannot be fed to animals

niether carrots nor apples are good for horses
carrots contain an orange pigment which the horses immune system reacts to as poison, and thus uses up as much nutrition trying to get rid of as the carrot gives
apples simpy have to much natural sugar, and can give a horse heartburn and indigestion
hence why REAL ranchers only hand the latter out as an occasional treat, and never give out the former
