...so, what are you thankful for this year?
Let's keep this thread relatively serious, please...
This year, as always, I am thankful...
...for my health, and the health of my loved ones.
...for my husband, sons and dog; my parents, siblings and extended family.
...that I continue to re-discover the Limitless Light of Amida's Wisdom and Compassion by accompanying friends on their journeys of discovery; "ondobo ondogyo", indeed... ; for spiderwebs, foggy mornings, and tomato hornworms...
...for good friends, both online and IRL...you all know who you are... ; thank you for being part of my life. I am very thankful that we are all indeed still here; and a VERY special thank you to the dear friends who spoiled me rotten bringing me Poké- and other goodies home from their trips to Japan this year
...for good music, good books, and knitting: comforts that are always there.
...for the opportunity to be part of the judging staff at both US Nationals and at Worlds this year; THANK YOU Dave, Mike, Pete, Jimmer, Susan and the rest of the folks at POP/PUI...
...to my dear friend who gave me the opportunity get back into graphics work and create the public image for his http://www.magnatune.com/artists/dac_crowellMagnatune.com albums. Sing the song, because it must be sung, my friend...I'm so glad your music is getting the wider attention it so richly deserves!
...for this wonderful flight of imagination called "Pokémon"...there aren't many games that can be simple enough for a five year old to play and still be complex enough for two adults to spend an hour+ on a single game, going down to last prizes on both sides; there's something very special here, and I think we lose sight of that sometimes. Age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality...all these things have been transcended by this 'silly' game and anime.
It's all about the 'ties'...the ties we form with others through the medium of this game and/or the anime. I've made wonderful friends from throughout the world via this game...and probably some enemies, too. Some I've had the opportunity to meet in real life, others I've not...but the ties are still there, and our lives are richer for them, and they influence us more than one can ever imagine a 'silly' anime or 'childrens' game' ever could. I've seen AMAZING things happen through this game/anime...lives changed, lives turned around, true works of art created because of it's inspiration. People who started out as just names on a Pokemon message board are now friends I can't imagine not being part of my life...and I wouldn't trade ANY of it, the good and the bad...for anything.
...that our game has managed to not only survive the transition, but grow and become in so many ways better than ever; for the wonderful community of players, judges and TOs here in So. California...
...for my cable connection, without which I would not be here
...that the 'gym continues in its latest incarnation
Best wishes to ALL for a wonderful Thanksgiving...
