Trading tips & guidelines, anyone?

I'm not sure whether this should end up in the Trading Post, but if the mods feel should, feel free to move it.

Based on your previous trade experience, how things turn out? Did things turn out smoothly? How do you react to unexpected, unwelcomed situations? How to counter those con men in the trading market?

How do you send the cards to the other party? Did the cards get lost in shipping?

And there's an important issue- who should pay for the cost of delivery? This issue is not obvious in trade, but it became an issue for selling cards.

This topic could fit in the trading forum me thinks. It would be a great resource.

Based on your previous trade experience, have you encountered any 'nail'? (The Chinese would know how to intepret this). How do you react to unexpected, unwelcomed situations? How to counter those con men in the trading market?
What's a Nail? Do you mean when a trade goes bad? Basically, you should try to find out everything you can about the trader you are dealing with. Then you should form an agreement with each other (in writting) to help ease the trading process. Also another idea is to have a third party both traders trust to send to so that party will act as the exchange point in order to insure both parties get their trade.

How do you send the cards to the other party? Did the cards get lost in shipping?
Best shipping resource in the USA I use is the US Postal Service. No matter what, If it is a big trade, make sure you include insurance and tracking information if possible.

And there's an important issue- who should pay for the cost of delivery? This issue is not obvious in trade, but it became an issue for selling cards.
If it not an auction the seller should include the cost of shipping in their price.

I am sorry that I've used the wrong word. "Encounter a nail" means is condemned. Therefore I changed the usage of word.

Pop, lets gather the ideas and then write an article!

One more issue to cover: New traders has neutral reputation. Can anyone give tips on how to build reputation?

When you post the cards, do you use paddled envelope? How do you protect the cards while shipping is an issue, too.

I just saw this thread...
fine if it vents ur anger before u throw it at us.
The only way we are good traders.. im based on my country trading(never get to trade overseas)
while jess is always a good trader known world wide web (except for once, i found out)

Paying for delivery is simple, since it's a trade, each trader is responsible for their own shipping costs. So if i trade a Southern Island binder for a Charizard EX, i would pay $5 to ship the binder and the other person pays $1 to ship their card. If a card was sold, then it's between the seller and buyer to come to terms on shipping costs.

The easiest way for a new trader to get a good reputation and not have to worry about getting ripped off would be to trade with an already established trader. Check the list of good traders. And see if any of the really good ones have anything you have. Then trade with them.

When i trade, how shipped depends upon the number of cards being traded. I always put the cards into a penny sleeve and then into a hard case, 2 cards max into 1 case. I tape a piece of paper over the top so the card(s) cannot fall out (i don't like to put actual tape over the top as the cards can get stuck by the tape). If i'm trading 1-4 cards, they can fit into 1-2 hard cases and go nicely into an envelope. I tape the case(s) to a piece of paper, usually a paper copy of the trade, so they don't slide around in the envelope. And mail away. For 3 or more hard cases (5 or more cards), i use a padded envelope - cards are still penny sleeved and put into hard cases. Then stacked into 2 even piles, wrapped in paper and taped so they don't slide around. Then mailed. If i am sending bulk cards - like lots, i put them into a plastic card case - the kind with a swinging door. And that gets wrapped in paper and taped so it won't open and then mailed.
