Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Uk event calendar (tentative)

I would travel if the sale value of the prizes was greater than the total cost of entry plus travel, plus a fee for my time.

LOL, is that by the minute or the hour:thumb: Yeah, I agree the prize support in City`s in relation to the numbers we actually get in the UK is excellent. You just have to look at CC in other countries such as Switzerland and Norway 25+ an age group, just shows you cant always win something. You should play for the love of the game, prizes are just a bonus. Btw Nnaann, been there done everything u said above with excuses, you just have to be creative.

Just enough to make it worthwhile.

Put it this way, I couldn't imagine myself playing this game "just for fun" anymore. No disrespect to anyone who does, but certainly on my part various other constraints make it less than feasible. It would have to double up as a means of generating income to justify participating.

What are the prizes (for 1st place) these days?

Lol, seeing your posts on your grab bags I don't doubt it. Anyway if you wanted to do it purely for money, only States and Nationals would be worth it. You'd also have to be very good to win those. States is a box + Trophy, Nats is flights, Scholarship, 2 boxes etc.

Trust me, I am.

How much do the trophies go for? And what about the scholarships, what can you use them for?

Troll Troll Troll Troll Troll - LOL
I'm very disappointed in your attitude, Ben. So my priorities may differ to the majority of other players, that's hardly a crime, is it? Wanting to make a bit of money out of a talent? I do enjoy this game, just as some people enjoy their jobs - yet wouldn't work for free.

@ Nitish/Donez - Whats wrong about playing for fun, and prizes? The prizes are Pokemon related, so surely if you enjoy the game then you would like free stuff related to that?

@ Progress - Lol, Trophies about about £40+, and you can sell scholarships to others. Anyway if you did it purely only for prizes and no love for the game, surely all that time at minimum wage could cancel any profits out? Scholarships + flights are only with Nationals and by good I mean you'd have to be good enough to beat people who got 2nd, 3rd in Seniors and Top 16 at Worlds last season to get that.

@ nnaann - I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with playing for fun. I just stated my personal reasons for playing the game, which are (as stated above):
1) K-Value
2) Fun
3) Shiny stuff (Trophies, Medals etc).

Other people may play for other reasons (Eg. Money, trips, Out of Boredom etc).

(Hey, does anyone else think this thread has gone slightly off-topic? Lols)

Yeah, It just seems alot of people on the gym tend to play down the enjoyment of winning prizes incase they are labelled as someone who can not possibly play for love of the game. And yes to the final question lol.

I think for the players that have been in the game for a long time since WOTC will understand that this is like heaven compared to the prize structure in between the change in OP after Nintendo took over. And there are far more lucrative games then Pokemon, as for me I play the game merely to gain mental stimulation and to spend time with a certain someone. Winning doesnt come into the equation, good luck to Progress, I hope you do well. I know im not as talented as you, but I hope I can learn from you if we ever meet each other at tournaments. I wish I had a trophy, oh well.

They're all good players who I respect, don't get me wrong. I'm not assuming I could just turn up at any event and win. But put it this way, I'd be pretty confident going in against any level of competition.

And on the first point, you misunderstand me completely. I think people are interpreting the intent of my questions in quite a distorted way, that is to say, that I'm just looking to make a profit by any means neccesary. That is not the case. This is a great game that I get a lot of pleasure from playing. I choose this game above others because it interests me, not because of opportunities to gain. However, as I said, due to other constraints and priorities, 'fun' alone isn't enough of an incentive. I can't afford it to be, both time and money-wise. I really don't see what's so wrong with that. We don't all have to be 'hardcore'.

I don't know you that well, but after what you wrote on the board about grab bags and how you freely admitted misleading children to get a good business portfolio then you're going to get a bad reputation.

I personally don't have anything against people playing for prizes as opposed for the enjoyment of the game, but I would rather see someone who enjoys the game to win the better prizes.

Woo hold your horses everyone. Sod all these arguements. We're all missing something specail here!
Oh and we have our Xmas Colouring Competition too with prizes for best two from the Juniors and Seniors Age Group and a specail best Masters Colouring in prize too!
