UK Nationals - Sat June 12th 2010

Having a date this early does seem kind of odd doesn't it. But the venue books up real early so the only way to get a date I want rather than second or third best is to pay over a big deposit. I want to avoid the exam weeks, make travelling as easy as possible and have as few players unavailable due to other commitments as possible. I can't achieve all three so have to pick a best compromise.

Yes it is the first weekend of half term
Yes it is followed by a bank holiday Monday.
Yes students have the whole of the half term week to continue their revision.
Yes the awful Friday evening travel can be avoided. (I use the term travel in its most general sense: on a Friday evening in the UK you typically spend more time stationary than moving
)
The UK GCE exams cover just about the whole of May and June so some kind of overlap is unavoidable. I wanted to use the half term this year too but all dates were fully booked by mid September, as it was I had to wait for a cancellation for the June 12th date. Big venues are either stupidly expensive like the NEC / anything in London or book up a long time in advance.
