I decided to go to Michigan states after my so-so performance at Indiana (8th). So luckily Alex A. (aade8) and his mother were able to give me a ride. Now the ride from Indianapolis to Jackson, MI is about 4-5 hours. And blizzards/detours are NOT fun. But luckily we still made it on time aroun 9:50 for registration. I decided to play GG because I have been doing well with it all year. A list?? Sure!
3 Ralts SW
1 Ralts DF
2 Kirlia
2 Gallade
2 Gardevoir
1 Gardevoir Lv. X
3 Sentret
2 Furret
1 Duskull DP
1 Dusknoir
1 Stantler
4 Celio
3 Roseanne
3 Team Galactic
2 Stevens
4 Rare Candy
3 Pluspower
2 Night Maintenance
2 Warp Point
1 Lake Boundary
1 Strength Charm
1 Windstorm
7 Psychic
4 DRE
2 Fighting
2 Scramble
Dusknoir was SUCH a good idea for that day. Saving me plenty of games. A lot of changing went to this list after Indiana. (you see what is changed) So when I get there, I find Faust and see Austin and have fu talking before registration until we were paired.
Round 1 vs ??? with Shuckle/Mothim
My Sentret to his Shuckle and I went 2nd. I attached and groped. He is having energy problems but plays a supporter. I evolve to Furret and proceed to the set-up. Eventually I baton pass a Furret with 3 energy to a benched Gardevoir. He fails some ER2 flips and gets as set-up as he can. But I am already set for a few turns with poké's ready and I win. Nice fellow.
1-0
Round 2 vs Justin W. with Gardevoir/Mag
Surprisingly, despite his faulty deck build, he came close to winning. Even with my T2 Sentret candy Furret. It seemed to go back and forth between Gardevoirs KOing themselves turn after turn. I blame myself for underestimating him and not setting up further. But instead going aggro. When time was called, we were tied on prizes. I warp pointed out one of his benched basics with <80 HP left and retreated back to my Gallade. Flip one prize = KO. Scramble won it here.
2-0
Round 3 vs Justin W. (a different one) with Swampert/Togekiss
i leik'd hiz dek a l0t. Mainly becuase Mudkip is the s**t. But he had a really good matchup against Magmortar. I forgot what start I got, but he got Mantyke. We both started setting-up rather well. He Togekiss'd and got 2 energy. This with wash out on Swampert made his deck very moving. (puns FTW)
After he does this, he lays his 4th basic. =) I quickly proceed to Psychic locking and Duskull candy Dusknoir sending his Swampert packing. This absolutely halted him, giving me room to power a Gallade and flip 4 prizes to OHKO Togekiss. Unfortunately he cant recover. Fun game.
3-0
Lunch Break
There was a buffet in the hotel where it was held. And it had a plentiful 3 options! Salad, sloppy joe, oversized hot-dog. Ummmmm... I had a salad. I sat down with Jeff and the Reed family to eat. They are a hilarious family, making lunch enjoyable.
Round 4 vs Nick K. (Smeagol) with Magmortar
Now was where I started to worry. Nick was no pushover for sure. And if it wasnt for my stupid game memory problems, I could fill you in on how good of a game it was. I luckily got my Furret start and proceeded to set-up Gardevoirs. At one point in the game, he plays a 4th benched in order to get an extra card with Claydol. The previous turn, I keen eyed for a candy and Gardevoir. I had Kirlia and Duskull on my bench, and he had NO celio in the discard pile. After his attacking, I topdecked a Celio! Played Gardevoir, telepass for energy, celio for Noir and candied it. Bye-bye Claydol. He was mad at his own misplay. Now since he had no powers to use, I brought out Gallade and flipped all prizes needed to KO 2 Mags. From here it was too late for him. Whew!
4-0
Round 5 vs Jeff D. (moza) with Blaziken/Mag
All of my good starts of the day were laughed at. I had in my hand a Stevens Advice, Gallade, Kirlia, DRE and some other stupid stuff I didnt need. My starter? Duskull. -_- But thankfuly I topdecked Stantler. I played Stevens for 5 cards ater his Pachi start, and continue to retreat and lead. Again, the Dusknoir here really helped my Mag matchup. Poor Jeff was getting horrible draws. =( The game shifted back and forth in prizes with me coming out on top. Good game Jeff.
5-0
Round 6 vs Dackery C. wih Hurricane
WHAT?! Dackery Cox was the other 5-0!! Yeah. He beat both Scott Faust and Austin Stevens for a jump of like 40 points. Good thing Im like 6,000,000,000-0 against Dackery. This game was no different. I halted his bench space, locked his set-up, and psychic cutted the Gatr he DID get set-up. I won that game like my hurricane matchup should always be. But I have to give kudos to Dackery for beating such elite players. =)
6-0

Top 8 - vs Justin W.
This was the same person I played 2nd round, so I go and find him. He tells me that he has to go home. I go and find Nick (9th) and tell him the good news. But, since the standings were already posted, Derek said it was an auto-win for me. Wow... luckSAC. Everyone tells me I wouldve won anyway, but you never know. So I walk around with Smeagol and discuss his un-luck. Getting 9th 2 states in a row. :nonono: I give him some quarters and we play in the arcade. Also, we were playing Pokemon outside of the main room, and some vicious middle school girls ticked us off. (ask Nick for details)
7-0
Top 4 - vs Micheal S.
To be honest, I was terrified. I hate my Magmortar matchup. The first game ended in 2 minutes. T3 Gallades eat lone Torchics for dinner. =D I felt lucky to say the least. Game 2 was a bit longer, though. Even now I still wonder why he laid 5 bench even though he knew I had Dusknoir. This AWEsome power took out a Blaziken with 2 energy and a fully powered Mag Lv X. My keen set-up and constant Ralts evo's took the best out of what he couldnt get back. Very good game Micheal.
8-0
Top 2 - vs Austin R.
These were by far the strangest games I played with a mirror. And Austin Reed is by far one of the coolest pokémon players alive. The first game was completely in his favor. It resulted in me sending out random basics to his psychic lock and struggling to get a Gardevoir of my own set-up. And finally, through some crazy luck, I come through. Before I know it I am taking out everything he has with scrambled Gardevoirs and Gallades. We must have played rock-paper-scissors 10 times. I won the first game. Now, the second game was the exact opposite. This time I got an early psychic lock. But he quickly got rid of it with Dusknoir (it attacks?) Every single time I would keen eye after my Gard was gone he telepassed a wager or played one of his own. I could tell I wasnt winning. In the end of that game I had nothing left. His Dusknoir won it. Austin Reed took game 2! With Under 5 minutes left, we started game three. I decided to go first starting with Ralts, Kirlia, Celio, and DRE. I draw, and pass. He gropes and benches. This next turn I expected to play Kirlia, but I topdecked CANDY!! XD Celio for Gardevoir, candy into it, attach DRE, and telepass Celio for Kirlia. Next turn he still had nothing to do but attack with a Kirlia. I draw, play wager for kicks and giggles. I win, get Gard Lv. X (which I couldhave telepassed for), and time was called. 6 prizes to 6. I sternly pointed to his benched Ralts. Bring down.
I scream in excitement, and shake his hand hardily. DOES IT!! Awesome games Austin.
