unlimited Garchomp deck ideas for a first timer

so this is my first attempt at making an unlimited deck. As i only started following the game in depth when the first black and white set i'm a little behind on card released since base set, i know the odd card here and there but no where near as much as the experts on here will know.

I am hoping to build a Garchomp deck as he is my favorite Pokemon so the first is to choose which garchomp to use my first thoughts would be either supreme victors garchomp or the dragons exhalted garchomp, the supreme victors one played with cards like energy removal and its ability to prevent the opponent attacking whilst dealing 120 each turn providing they have no energy attached, or the dragons exalted garchomp with dragons exalted altaria to deal high amounts of damage for low energy like the current deck but with the added speed of cards like broken time space, with this in mind i have no idea if these cards would be enough or if there is a card that could work very well with either of these combos, which would more effective in the unlimited scene
also whats your thoughts on garchomp lv X from majestic dawn is it worth it and does it work with either deck, more so with garchomp/altaria as with it being colourless when put on garchomp which is dragon will it lose the damage bonus from altaria?

and now comes another hard part, trainers and supporters, with such a vast selection available its hard to know where to start. i have seen that the base set cards such as computer search, professor oak and item finder are very powerful cards but a little guidance on other options would be great

so there it is any help, guidance or new ideas you could give would be great.
Thanks for taking you time to read this.

First, welcome to Unlimited!

Second... regular Unlimited can be far harsher than anything you will have played yet. If you're coming up against someone who is serious about winning no Garchomp will save you. It's possible to set up a combo turn 1 and win there and then or lock you down instantly. If it's just you and friends playing casual with older cards be sure to set some ground rules before you guys get going to prevent your games degenerating into turn 1 and 2 wins.

Apart from regular Unlimited there are variants you can play which have rules built into them to prevent these turn 1 wins. The Japanese "Palace" format isn't strictly Unlimited but Diamond & Pearl onward with a banned / restricted list. A version of Unlimited that's made to balance the power-level of all sets is Unlimited 150, I'm a big fan! You use 100 card decks where every card (apart from Basic Energy) must be different, e.g. you can have 4 Garchomp but they must all be different versions. This style of play means crazy combos don't really happen but you can still make a consistent deck with the right build.
If you're interested check the links in my sig. especially the SixPrizes intro article which has a nice list of Trainers and Supporters.

When you know what sort of Unlimited you'll be playing and how serious I can get back to you on card choices. Oh and to answer the rules question, the Lv.X would turn off the Altaria bonus.

Thank you :)
Wow there is alot more to it than i thought, i was planning on just playing with friends but if my local shop gets more support then they might start a league so should be playing alot more if that happens,
Ive heard about the 150 format but it seemed a little daunting with so many cards put i'll take alook at your link maybe that will ease me into it, :)
Just curious why is it called 150?

Heh, the inevitable question :p It's left over from the formats early days when it used 150 cards and some weird rules! It's much simpler now, but with people already playing it and calling it that, the name just stuck, kinda has a nostalgic feel to it too...

I think the best way to go about it is to just dive in with the cards you have. A 150 deck will last as long as you want it to, there's no rotations so just take your time. Build it then just gradually makes improvements as you learn what it needs and as you get hold of cards. Building around one of the Lv.Xs seems like the best move, you can go with a Toolbox deck using the Majestic Dawn one or pure SP using the Supreme Victors version, that's my take on it anyway.

This should be kinda OP, easier to recycle your DCE's in Unlimited, and garchomp supah fast. Probably needs tweaking, but yeah :)
