It will never host a worlds again???

There's a rumor that some higher ups in Japan were not happy that we got brushed by a hurricane in 2008. I loved it myself... big fat warm raindrops were fun! Of course, in 2007 when we were in Hawaii last there was an earthquake and storm warnings. Can't seem to win...

I sure hope you are not counting Ohio as part of the "Midwest" as Columbus is certainly closer to the East Coast than it is to the central US.

Columbus would have to be a "Mid-North-East" choice.

I really wish Sarah Palin would comment. We all need a good laugh.

My goodness

Really, don't you have anything better to do than bicker back and forth on the location of Nationals? This is getting ridiculous! Regardless of where it is, if you are a Pokemon player you will be at Nationals. So stop all the whining and the "it should be here" nonsense. It will be where they say it will be and everyone is wasting their breath on opinionating where it should/shouldn't be.

Be happy that it's a free event and that Pokemon goes to the lengths it does. For those who said St. Louis was boring, well you didn't open your eyes to your surroundings now did you? I won't go further with that because all you have to do is go online to find the attractions such as: Six Flags, The Arch, The Cardinals, etc and those of you driving could have stopped along the way to do "fun" things.

Enough arguing. It is what it is. Why don't you thank the people who put this together rather than argue and fight about what they "aren't doing for you".

I'm just going to jump in and jump back out of this thread..... But all this chatter really makes me curious..... Honest answers please...

In a Percentage (%), --- What amount of time do you and your family actually do something other than the following when you goto a big tournament like Nats or Worlds??? (Actual tournaments/Playtesting/Free League/Sitting around chilling with friends you see once per year)

I've been to 3 Nationals now, and I don't remember doing anything other than playing the game in some form, cruising the shops/vendors, and making sure my kids get some sleep..... So why is anything other than keeping it centrally located in mid-USA even being discussed.....

It should stay in the midwest Period. I think this because everyone travels equally alothough it should be in the very center of the USA

False. The place Nationals is held effectively DETERMINES whether some people will be there or not. Sure, they'd love to go, but travelling there and spending that money is the main reason why more people don't.

My personal experience, I was able to go once, because I have family in Cincinnati OH, and Columbus was on the way down. However, I have since moved and began attending college, AND Nats has been moved. My chances for attending the best event of the year? Slim-to-none.

ok let do change it. let rotatit but no invite.
no player cap.
leave it the way it was last year.
place i would like nats to be
boston

Jerry,

Great Post. I agree 100%. I have never been to the Arch in St Louis, and I don't expect I will ever bother to see the Arch regardless the number of times I go. Nor do I have any desire to go to a St Louis Cardinals game. I went to St Louis to play pokemon and see friends, period.

Thus my requirements are simple:
Safe, Affordable, Drivable/Flyable Location for Pokemon. (Some places are cheaper to fly to then others)
Reasonable Priced and Quality Hotel Rooms that is close to Pokemon.
Available, Reasonable, Priced and Quality Food that is close to Pokemon.
Places to meet friends and play matches before the main tournaments. (Worlds in San Diego was a great example of pre-event and post-event lack of areas to play and meet people)

My requirements are NOT:
Attractions near by that I won't make time to go to.
Resort Hotels with Amenities that I won't have time to use.
Upscale Dining that I won't have time or want to spend the money to go to.

Thus for some people, places like Nashville, Louisville, Columbus, Indianapolis don't sound great, but if they are drivable and flyable by a largest number of people, have the space, hotel rooms, and food all close together, that is GREAT in my BOOK.

We will see what has been decide in a few weeks I hope.

I can say this about any big tournament - we make a vacation out of it.

When we went to Super Trainer Showdown events in Secaucus and San Diego, we visited NYC and spent time at things like the zoo and La Jolla in San Diego.

For the last Super Battle Zone in San Diego, we did a trip to LA, finishing in SD for the event.

When the very first Worlds was held in Seattle, we really enjoyed the couple of days leading up to the event by exploring the town and what it had to offer.

Worlds in San Diego? We visited Sea World and Old Town.

Certainly Origins and Gencon afforded us opportunities to do and see things and we took advantage of all of those, not just the Pokemon.

You may not take advantage of what these locations have to offer. That's fine. But that doesn't mean that these events should be in places that have nothing to offer beyond a large room with a lot of tables. A lot of us based our vacations around these events.

I still don't see what the problem with St. Louis as a vacation spot is with you. They have one of the best zoos in the country. Six Flags is not that far outside town (not like Chicago). The Cards were playing the entire weekend. Downtown during a weekday is always interesting. And the Arch is always worth at least one visit. Public transportation within the city is as good as any US city out there not named New York or Chicago.

Truth is that virtually every major city in the US (major being defined as a million or more metro area) has something interesting to see or do. It's up to you to find what that interesting point might be.
